Im thinking you want an answer that tells you that "Oh you do not have diabetes". I don't know if you do or not, but I totally understand why you are hoping you don't. Go get test my friend. Diabetes is hereditary. Weight does not play part in diabetes forget the propaganda. Hereditary very much so does. I would go get tested just to give yourself peice of mind. Your worrying does not help, get the testing out of the way. If you do have it, you will be guided of how to maintain it. Diabetes is not a death sentence for all that have it. With proper care, many live a long life with the condition. I suggest you get tested just to put your mind at peace. I will also say, if you have gone to the same family doctor as your family he should of already ran test on you for that. Just put your mind at ease and go get tested already.

Although eating lots of sugar is not so great for you for many reasons, it doesn't really cause diabetes (at least not in most young people who don't become obese because of it) though it can make diabetes much worse if you do have it. The most common early symptoms of diabetes are excessive urination and thirst, and weight loss despite eating a lot of food. That does sound like you describe it, most of the other symptoms are only when sugar goes very high and involve things like becoming confused and somnolescent and eventually lapsing into a coma (hopefully nothing like that has happened to you).
If you're worried about it, the easiest thing to do is to test your urine for sugar, it's a simple test your doctor can do in his office. The most reliable way to test for diabetes is to get a blood sugar first thing in the morning, before you eat anything (or at least 8 hours after your last meal) and the most sensitive test is called an oral glucose tolerance test, where you come in fasted, then they give you a precisely metered amount of sugar and measure your blood sugar before and 2 hours after.
If you have a history of early onset diabetes in your family, then I think it's worthwhile to get to your doctor sooner rather than later and tell him about your symptoms so he can do some tests and see for sure what's going on with your blood sugar.

You are at risk because of your family history, not because you eat sugar (if you are diabetic and eat a lot of sugar, you risk diabetic shock, but consumption of sugar does not cause diabetes). You already seem to know about the symptoms, since you mention frequently going to the bathroom, but the real point is that many people have no obvious symptoms at all. You really should make sure you get a blood test when you visit the doctor; that is the only way to know for sure.

Go to the doctor if you are really concerned. If you are young, you have a smaller likelyhood of having to worry about it. It does run in your genes.
The doc will make you drink a large amount of syrupy liquid and take glucose tests of your blood. If they show you have diabetes, then you have it.

If you really have a serious case, you would know already (I think they call it type 2). If you have the lesser case you can controll it by watching what you eat.

You may also want to look into hypoglycemia (spelling). Basically similar to, but I think opposite of diabetes. You crash often and become very, very tired.

Other people will be able to tell you way more than me.
I just know that a normal blood-sugar level is somewhere between 80 (low-end) and 120 (high-end).

I was just diagnosed with diabetes but b4 I was diagnosed my symtoms were:1-I was always hungry, usualy for sugar and I didn't gain any weight ; 2- I went to the bathroom like 5 times at night;3-I was always tired and staying home from school(my parents thought I was faking);4-I was drinking like I had just walked through a desert:2 water bottles at night 2 gallons during the day. You are at risk so I'd have it checked.

if this runs in your family for goodness sake go to the dr and have a blood test and find out if you are a diabetic. some of the symtoms are: excessive urination, and thrist, tired all the time, weight gain or loss. I also think that you are at risk big time.
