The Chimichanga, or chivichanga, (pronounced chimmy·CHAHN·guh /tʃɪmiˈtʃɑŋə/) is a deep-fried burrito that originated in Northern Mexico (Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua) and later became popular across the border, especially in Arizona. Flour tortillas are folded into rectangular packages and filled with a wide range of ingredients, most commonly beans, rice, cheese and shredded meat. They are then deep-fried and usually served without a sauce, but may be accompanied with salsa, guacamole, sour cream or cheese.

When I lived in Mexico we would make and eat burritos, however someone thought to name a fried burrito a chimichanga or chimichunga. These I know aren't Mexican in nature. I hope I was some help.

It's basically a fried burrito with stuff put on top. It's served at those American "Mexican food restaurants". Most of what is served in them is not Mexican but most Americans don't know any better or care as long as it tastes good.

It's really good. It's meat like chicken or beef season and rolled up in a thick dough and fried. They usually top it here with cheese queso or a chili sauce. They probably thought it was a mexican dish because it is served in "Mexican" resturants here. There aren't many that serve traditional authentic Mexican food, I think most or Tex-Mex.

They're similar to an enchilada. Usually meat, and sauce, inside a flour tortilla, deep fried and then topped with sauce and cheese.
Most Mexican/Tex-mex restaurants over here make them.
