It is my understanding (I'm not vegan or vegetrian) that vegans do not consume any animal byproducts because of the inhumane treatment of the animals. If I am incorrect, please say so. However, if you knew, for certain, that a certain brand of these products (like milk/cheese) only used things (say, milk) obtained from humanely treated animals, would you consume them?

Wow, I've read some of the answers posted. I said, "IF you know FOR SURE the animal was treated well". This is a hypothetical. I'm not claiming that there is any way to know for sure, other than raising and milking the animal yourself. Also, in response to all the responses regarding the treatment of animals. My question is asking what you would do if those conditions didn't exist.

I don't necessarily abstain from milk and meat because of cruelty alone. Meat is dead and milk contains pus and antibiotics. That just isn't something that I want to put into my body. So to answer your question, no, I would not eat it even if the animals were treated well before they were slaughtered. But the truth is, slaughtering one of God's creatures for food is never humane.

I am a vegan and would not consume or use animals in any other way whether they were treated like dirt or royalty, because I don't believe that animals were created for our use. Humans think that just because they have the power to be abusive and pain-causing that they should be. This is not so.

Well, my friend. I will not give you the rote answers. I think its screwed up the way a lot of people AND animals are treated. And I'm not even talking about the ones we eat.
However. I think Vegetarians or PETA types are delusional if their claim for veganism is because of the treatment of animals. And NOTHING ticks me off more, than VEGAN shoes or clothing. What this means is, that there is no LEATHER on the clothing, however, i guarantee that 'Creating' the PLEATHER to make the jacket in the 3rd World factory it was made in, is harming WAY more animals with pollution and runoff and waste, not to mention energy. So please! Give me a break!
I don't care for meat because its a bit nasty. There are times it doesnt bother me, but chicken, or any poultry kind of grosses me out. I don't mind fish so much, but I don't trust the waters they come from. My concern lies more with Mad Cow, e coli, and other things like that.
I DO eat things like milk and eggs and cheese from organic or cage free animals. Eggs though, gross me out a little, and I don't care for egg substitute. I use organic eggs in my baking.
Humanely treated animals? Come on. When Charles Ingalls was out buck hunting to feed his family, he shot the damn deer and brought it home. Is that humane? To take it away from its' family? Noo. But hey, we all gotta eat, and thats the dam food chain. Get over it.
I'm all for vegetarianism, veganism, etc., but NOT eating HONEY, because if comes from an "Animal" (bee) is RIDICULOUS in my opinion. A bee doesnt give a crap about where its living, as long as it can do what it has the instinct to do.
ALL Milk is inhumane! I mean no cow is giving milk 24/7 for PEOPLE! Its for baby cows! But, I like milk.

I would think so but vegans say the animals are being exploited but then so are the children in China and other countries who have to work 12 hour days for less than one dollar but the vegans would get mad if i changed the subject.

I do not believe dairy is good for the human body. For health reasons, I would not drink or eat dairy. I tried to have chickens and have fresh organic eggs, but after two years they stopped laying like they were and so I was cleaning out their coop and feeding them twice a day for nothing. It was too much work, so I just gave up on eggs. I don't think I would go back to eating eggs if someone else did it, because I like being able to live independent of animals.

No ... because that's why we're vegan ...
Vegans don't eat ANYTHING that comes from animals, and the second they agree to start drinking milk because the cows were treated "humanely" before slaugher (because slaughter is so "humane", no?), they're not vegans anymore.

Yes, I would and do... so I guess I'm not really vegan, although definitely vegetarian.
I use honey-- I've kept bees and know that the work I put into protecting them from ants and other predators, providing them clean safe hives, etc. is nearly equal to the work they do making honey--- so its like their 'rent' (protection money?)
I think milk is a healthy food, prepared properly and consumed in moderation... A well-cared for--and loved-- cow makes far more milk than her calf can drink...same with goats. And again, their product is 'payment' for the care and expense put into keeping them alive and healthy.
I personally don't eat eggs--not even from free-range chickens, kept almost like pets by my friends-- because many are fertilized... and those which are not are the same as a chicken's period in my opinion. : p But I have no moral objection...A non-fertilized egg would just rot somewhere if someone didn't eat it.
There's no free lunch--- if you care for an animal, it is fair to accept something from them. But not take their lives--That's murder!
PS milk only contains pus and blood when the cows are mistreated and made unhealthy, milked by machines, have infections etc. Common in commercial dairies, for sure! But a well-cared for cow/goat has clean healthy milk

You can not "LUMP" all Vegans into a category.
I agree the way most animals are raised is horrible & unhealthy for humans to consume. I have in the past used dairy soucres that are humane & might again in the future. I do use honey on occasion too.
Mostly I am Vegan because I beleive we were meant to be.

well... I might not answer your question, but I still wanted to input.
I am not Vegan but I have recently decided to eat 50 % less meat and a lot more veggies and fruits, the reason? well like most americans I found myself consuming way too much fast food I eat fast food once a day or every other day, I am underweight for my age and height, I have poor eating habbits therefore I have just as much energy as a fat person does, it sucks! Oh also I eat loads of red meat which I love but I hear too much of it can cause breast cancer.

most of the vegans that i know are vegans, not because of the way the animals are treated, but because of the health issue. it is healthier to not eat any animal by-products, because of what is put into the animals when they are being grown. the way they live helps in the factor about what to eat but is not the major reason. so to answer your question about the way it was treated would i eat it? that does not matter its the health issue.
