HPV is contacted in more than one way. There are many types of HPV. Try looking around on WebMD.com It should help you. One type causes genital warts, and are contacted by touch. Also, since you can contact it by blood, many ways can transfer it. Not saying this applies to you, but unsafe sex, drugs, etc. Or..your partner could be "fibbing" a little on who he or she has been with, and what they might have done in the past.

First of all, as a medical student you're completely naive. Let me clue you in on HPV. Guys are the main carriers of HPV and continue to spread it to unsuspecting women, from having unprotected sex. Why? Because there is NO TEST a guy can take to determine whether or not he has HPV. There are NO SYMPTOMS of HPV in a male. HPV is very prevalent, having over 100 different strains of the virus. The statistics basically say, if you've had unprotected sex in your lifetime, you've acquired HPV or will have acquired it at some point. Most strains of HPV go unnoticed and the body clears it up. A FEW strains cause abnormal pap smears in women, and those abnormal cells can turn into the HPV that results in vaginal warts, or in the extreme case, cervical cancer. If she had clean pap smears and then went abnormal after unprotected sex with you, YOU'RE the one that gave her something. As I already stated, you *THINK* you're clean. But most likely if you've had unprotected sex, you're a carrier of some HPV strain.

It's the HPV virus which is sexually transmitted sounds like or something else if you haven't had any sex at all. Ask your dr, best source for this information. You can have cervical biopsies done to verify it. It can go away on it's own, in the future I would recommend using a condom.
Kissing cannot cause the HPV virus.
Good luck, check with your dr for the most accurate info.

It is rare, but possible, to get HPV from toilet seats or tanning beds. To get HPV, all you need is a few transferred skin cells- not sex. If you touched him and then touched yourself soon afterward, that could do it. You can get some versions of HPV from kissing, but not anything that would affect your pap. Keep in mind, honey- hpv isn't really a dirty thing. 70-80% of people that have ever had sex have some form of hpv. It a normal healthy immune system, hpv is gone in about 18 months, but it is possible to inherit it from your mother. I know its awkward, but talk to her about it. You have no reason to worry, or to feel dirty.

Hpv is a sexually transmitted disease. Ask your partner it he had intercourse with someone before you. I think may be he has. but does not want to admit it. Just remember you both has lives before you met and don't hold this against him. Just get treated and go on with you lives.
