There are a lot of things you could give out as party favors. At Walmart, in the craft section usually by the part that has the items for scrap books, and cake decorating they have these cute pacifers in pink and blue that you could attach to a sash of potpourri that you can buy in light colors. Thats always a nice gift.
One shower I went to gave out boo boo kits as a party favor. It was just a wash cloth in either pink blue or yellow that had a spot that was reserved to put an ice cube for a child's boo boo. Really cute.
Do a search on line and you might be able to get a lot of great ideas from.

Print up some "Certificates of Merit" for game winners. Depending on the games you play, these can be for the person with the best memory, best guess, most hysterical drawing and so on. Be creative and come up with certificates most suitable to the games you're playing. Leave a blank line on the certificate for the person's name.
Print out and laminate your own bookmarks. These can be as elaborate as a collage of photos (people, animals, nature.) or just designs from clip art.
Homemade cookies, brownies or other sweets wrapped in translucent wrapping paper present very nicely as a prize or favor. Popcorn also works, and for the more ambitious, homemade jams or breads are welcomed prizes.
Have a Polaroid on hand and take photos of the prizewinners with the guest of honor. Each prizewinner gets a photo to take home.
If you have children who enjoy making jewelry, have them create an assortment of beaded jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings and key chains (just add a key ring on one end). Place all of these in a basket by the door and let your guests pick their favorites.
Older kids can help make soap for favors, which is a lot easier than you might think. Glycerin soap cubes and molds are available at most craft stores. Just melt, pour and add some shiny beads for a fun look!
Create small gift baskets with assorted items such as soaps, lotions and bath beads. Or, for the more gourmet, try an arrangement of shortbread cookies, chocolates and tea.
Whether you decide to buy or make your favors, these mementoes do not have to be elaborate or expensive. Something simple, from the heart, is perfect for this occasion.
I provided some links for you. The last one also has good games to play for the shower. good luck and congrats!

For my babyshower that came out really cute they made centerpieces that were diaper cakes with a big card and the table wrote out their advice on the card. It was great b/c I kept and used the centerpieces.
For the giveaways, my mom bought these really cute frames and placed a nice thank you poem in each one. She also bought really dainty soaps and wrapped them in pastel tissue papers. It looked really nice.
Oh, and really cool idea. She bought a pack of onezies, one for each table. She gave each table those art kits to decorate shirts. By the presents she put a clothes hanger and hung all the onsizes to dry. The party came up with really cute ideas!!!! Granmdmothers, Mom to be, and Godmother were the judges. You can send thankyou cards with the baby wearing the respective onsize to people. People loved it.

Most party stores sell empty mini plastic baby bottles in pink and blue (you can select one color if you know the baby's gender) or maybe you can buy them at OrientalTrading.com. I hosted a baby shower years ago, and filled these bottles with pink and blue Jelly Bellys. I wrote on the bottles with a permanent marker "NAME's Baby Shower, DATE". The guests loved them!
