According to the OB/GYN where I work. As long as the cold sore is completely gone and healed. You can give o.s. with a condom. But you should never give o.s. when you have an active cold sore. Because you can give him genital herpes HSV-1. Or kiss him while you have an outbreak. You should try taking L-Lysine it really helps prevent breakouts. When you take them at the first sign of getting an outbreak. Remember you can give it to him orally even in the prodome stage. Which is when your tingling, itching, or whatever it is that triggers the start of a cold sore. So be very careful to recognize the signs of an outbreak.

The Herpes found on the mouth is usually a different Herpes than in the genital area. Herpes 1 generally is the moth version where Herpes 2 is usually the genital version. about 50-80% of Americans carry the antibody for Herpes one. Thats is to say that most of us already have it... as far as giving it to someone. If you do not have an outbreak and are using a condom, you should be pretty safe. of course its never 100%.

Yes, that would be safe as long as you have no cold sore at the time. Genital herpes is a different story - you can always spread that with or without a sore.

I am pretty sure cold sores does not count as an STD and is not related to herpes. I may not be 100% correct but I am pretty sure even non genital harpies is very bad to have.

You can get cold sores without sexual contact and that also includes kissing.

Cold sores can spread though kissing and stuff but I am pretty sure its not a STD. A cold can be transmitted though kissing and its not considered an STD.

edited--- I guess I was getting mixed up between that can a canker.

I'm a nurse. You can only spread it when the cold sore is present. If in fact the sore has healed and you have no other symptoms, go for it.

Wow, when you have an active sore it can be easily spread to another mouth or to genitals. I've heard it can be spread when you're not having an outbreak, but I get cold sores too and never spread them(that I know of). I'malways careful when Have one not to kiss or especially do anything sexula until it scabs and falls off completely. That's what my doctor told me too.
