I hope to God we all stop. Maybe when the human race is finally sick of getting heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer, Alzheimer's, then we'll finally FINALLY see the connection... "Oh wait, if I eat Fluffy, I'll get sick. Now I think I get it." DUHHHH!!!!! Or maybe we'll all die out before the animals do, die out from the illnesses we get by eating them.
To use the argument that we've always slaughtered animals for food is pure rubbish. We've always committed rape, murder, incest, and robbery. In all of human history, we've had slaves. In all of human history, we've had war and carnage. We've always had torture of prisoners of war. Does the fact that we've always done these things make it right? Of course not.
We are NOT anatomically designed for eating flesh. So many otherwise intelligent people say that since we have canines, our teeth are made for tearing flesh. OMG, who are we kidding??? Look at the canines of man, and look at the canines of meat eating animals, there's a HUGE difference. They have fangs, while our canines are puny. There's also a huge difference between the molars of carnivores, and the molars of herbivores (us!). Ours are designed to grind grain and vegetation, theirs are designed to continue tearing flesh. Meat eating animals have claws to tear flesh, we have delicate fingers to pick and peel vegetation. Their jaws only move up and down, while herbivores' jaws move side to side as well, so that we can grind grain and vegetation. Their digestive juices are SUPER STRONG, much more powerful than ours, so that they can digest raw and rotting flesh. Our digestive juices are not designed for that, they're not as strong. Their digestive tracts are much shorter than ours, that way they can eliminate rotting flesh much more quickly. Basically, their digestive tracts and juices and teeth and jaws are designed to eat entirely different things. Can we go out and gnash raw flesh and not wind up on the toilet all night? Try it.
NOW do you STILL think we're anatomically meant for eating flesh???
We are the planet's most powerful creatures, which does NOT give us the righ to slaughter those weaker than ourselves. Rather, it means we have the OBLIGATION TO TAKE CARE OF ALL OTHER CREATURES.
"When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy."
~Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA
"But for the sake of some little mouthful of flesh, we deprive a soul of the sun and light and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy.:

Well, It seems there is a unanimous vote for no and I would have to agree. Human lifestyle originated from hunters and gatherers. As long as there is someone who is willing to hunt and kill, and provide for the larger society, humans will always be eating animals. But I think the growing trend nowadays is that more people are turning vegetarian for religious, health, political, environmental reasons. The cost for maintaining livestock is a lot more than that for raising plants, for essentially the same caloric value. Be pescatarian! but don't eat too much tuna or your fingers will curl and turn yellow from mercury poisoning. Eat anything with moderation.

That's like asking if people will ever stop being ignorant about what vegetarian's eat. The answers is, no. As long as animals are still safe to eat there will always be meat eaters out there. I do believe that over time vegetarians/vegans as well as meat eaters will even out.

After the world ends and new heavens and a new earth are formed, then nobody will eat anything with a face. As for now, sadly, people think they need to eat animals. But eventually, no one will. Until then, we will have to deal with all the suffering.

No because people are raised eating animals so that is what they are used to. I have been forced to stop eating animal meat because of health reasons (uterine fibroids). I have noticed that my skin has cleared and I feel much better. I am very glad that I stopped eating meat when I did because I just heard on the news that the FDA approved cloned meat to be safe to be eaten which is very disturbing to me.

Definitely not, as long as people raise animals to be eaten, like cows and chickens, people will eat them. It helps the economy, helps people get a steady stream of nutrients into their system, and high demand will make sure it stays. After all, God made animals to be eaten.
But on the downside, obesity is mainly caused by eating too much beef, and so is cholesterol and heart-attacks.
