Yes, anyone can become diabetic.

Diabetes has become an epidemic in the U.S., mostly due to the terrible diet of the average American--an over abundance of simple carbohydrates and unhealthy fats-- (white sugar and white flour products, sugar-laden sodas and fruit juice drinks and a multitude of processed foods). The pancreas, which manufactures insulin, is active in both sugar and fat metabolism.

Sedentary lifestyles are also, in part, contributing to the decline in wellness and the increase in the obesity and diabetes rates, although one does not have to be obese to become diabetic.

EAT REAL FOOD (certified organic when possible), not something that comes out of a box and you'll go a long way in avoiding many degenerative diseases. A good regimen of the proper high quality supplements is also quite beneficial and should be customized for each individual by a competent, thorough clinical nutritionist, naturopathic physician, or MD with a nutritional background. This regimen should be altered as you age and if prescribed properly, will help to keep you biologically younger than your calendar age.

Wishing you excellent health and a Happy New Year!

Well..... depends on the type of diabetes you are talking about.

Type 1 diabetes occurs mostly in young people. The exact reason for it is unkown, although the pancreas stops producing insulin completely and therefore type 1 diabetics need to inject themselves with insulin from other sources.

Type 2 diabetes is caused by poor diet and therefore people in their 40s onwards get it. The body gets tired with having to deal with bad food inside the body therefore, although there is insulin being produced, it is not enough or it is not being used properly.

Can any one become diabetic?........ yes
although there are certain groups which are more at risk than others, such as overweight people or people with a family history of diabetes.

It is also possible to have diabetes and for the person not to realise it.... this can be fatal

Without treatment, the main symptoms of diabetes are:
feeling very thirsty, producing excessive amounts of urine (going to the toilet a lot), tiredness, weight loss and muscle wasting.

Yes it is true, by various ways. Illness can induce stage one diabetes so can the use of certain steroids or betablockers. Beta blockers do exactly that, stop the beta cells from doing their job.

Beta cells within the pancreas regulate sugar levels, if they are "blocked" then stage one diabetes is almost certain. This is just an example and almost certainly your GP will not admit to it, as then they would be giving you the illness indirectly through treatment of something else, but its there in black and white.

Stage one diabetes can be controlled without treatment and by the individual and mostly this consists of simply removing sugar from the diet. Primarily in drinks and on cereals, then by incorporating low sugar this and that.

These days diabetes is in the main, under control so there's no need to worry unduly if the doc says you have stage one.

I am not a GP, your doctor will be only too happy to allay your fears.

Type 1 diabetes is genetic, you are born with it. Type 2 is almost always brought on by environmental factors. Unhealthy eating, overweight/obesity, stress, and other diseases are major factors that can cause diabetes.

I'm hypoglycemic, which is the opposite of diabetes; my pancreas is on overdrive.
When I was under severe duress years ago, I flipped into diabetes - just diet-dependent. After I escaped the situation, my blood-sugars have stablised.
No history of diabetes in my family on either side.

Hi, type 1 is usually something that people are born with. Type 2 is also known as late onset diabetes, which people can get later in life.

There are many risk factors, mainly being quite a bit overweight around the tummy.

You can have a greater predisposition to becoming diabetic through genetics, but anyone can become diabetic based on poor dietary habits.

it's genetics and environmental.

diabetes is caused by eating too much white sugar or processed foods like white rice, white flour, or white vinegar which are basically all sugar. people used to just develop diabetes later in life after a lifetime of eating sugar, but it's now estimated that 1 in 3 kids or more...is born with diabetes because of their parents bad eating habits.

refined sugars strain your pancreas which has to produce insulin to digest sugar.
