I do not want to give you false hopes- I have seen one case at Groote Schuur Hospital Cape-Town who has had 7 heart attacks. He did very well after Prof Christiaan Barnard( The Heart Transplant Pioneer) had performed a piggy-back heart transplant with him.

Individuals hearts vary and the sizes and the severity of the heart attacks vary greatly. To classify a heart attack in categories of mild ,moderate or severy is arbitrary. It all depends upon the extent of the cardiac muscle damage and the location.

The question of the likelihood of further attacks is also very variable. In a lot of cases when the patients have recovered from one or more heart attacks they thereafter become fully aware of the dangers and these make them very careful of 3 aspects ;1. they become very regular regarding medications 2.Their diet changes for the better 3. They avoid physical and psychological stresses while taking gradual graduated exercises etc.

With these 3 changes in lifestyle these patients do remarkably well and they even feel the improvement. Surprisingly then, the next heart attack may be postponed for years or even decades.

Of course you are MORE likely to have another but the next one could be THE one. Excercise, diet and medical advice could possibly help you survive more than 3 or 4 but then the problem should be thoroughly investigated so the best treatment can be administered.
I cant explain why some people have more than one attack sorry guess it can be so traumatic for all concerned.

My brother died of his only heart attack age 36 though no-one got to him in time, so it seems age is no barrier either.

I have had four heart attacks, one of my brothers has had eight and two strokes. He is now 72, I am 61. We're still going! He still organises and goes on weekend shoots. We also have twins in the family, both who had heart attacks within a fortnight of each other. One died, the other has had no further problems, (we have a slight family history of cardiac problems, as both of our parents died of heart problems).

You are more likely to have another at some point. Survival depends on how much damage has been done by the previous ones. Everyone is different.

your question is a very good one. i know people who have had at least four heart attacks and lived to tell it. me? i have only ever had one. that was enough for me. i am on tablets for the rest of my life. i fear having another. the doc told me that the one i had should have killed me. now i really take it easy. no heavy lifting, pushing or pulling.
