To substitute the protein in a non-veg diet from a vegetarian diet, you can consume lentils, beans, nuts, tofu, eggs, legumes, dried fruits, cheese, peanut butter, soybean and protein shakes (without gelatin of course).

Because you only vegetarian I would not worry about your protein. When you eat meat chances are you eat too much protein. Americans are fooled into believing that they need more protein then they really do. Only about 2.5 to 10 percent of our daily calories need to come from protein. Americans eat too much protein, and all that extra protein is stored in the body as fat. Dairy is a good source of protein. If you are concerned, nuts are a good source. Broccoli is also a good source for protein. Things with soy protein are also good. I am a vegan, and have done countless hours on this topic, i plan to be a professional nutrition expert. I wouldn't worry about you protein consumption, as long as your getting some, or at least eating food your most likely getting enough anyway! Good Luck! And Congratulations! Vegetarians and vegans are much healthier than omnivores!

I am understanding from a vegetarian friend that when you eat beans and rice mixed together, it forms a protein that will replace the animal meat you have stopped consuming. She has beans and rice at least once a day, and has for about 20 years. She uses a lot of the on line veggie sites to help her stay "food fit." She also eats the Veggie Patty at Subway, it counts as one serving of meat... and it's very tasty too, it's what I eat instead of the meat sammiches. If you can find vegetarian cream cheese, you can eat plain cream cheese and a plain bagel and the two combined form a protein.

Anybody of average weight and size doesn't really need more than 50 grams of protein a day. An educated vegetarian will obtain their necessary daily protein needs naturally from foods like legumes, nuts and beans. You can even find much needed protein in grains, vegetables and fruit. If you feel you are still needing to supplement your daily protein intake, try making a fruit smoothie adding a good protein powder like Twinlab's Vege Fuel which will give you 35 grams of soluble protein per serving.

It's easy. Protein is in everything and most people get way too much which can cause health issues. Whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds are great sources and so are eggs and cheese if you are lacto-ovo.

Eat nuts and eggs. They are in the same food group as the meat. Also make sure that you are eating veggies and fruits instead of sweets.
