What you need to be doing is to keep the phlegm liquid so that you can cough it up from your lungs. Don't ever try to suppress a chesty cough with cough mixtures, coughing is nature's way of making sure the lungs do not become congested. You can try a steam inhalation too but stay inside in the warm. Sip a warm honey and lemon drink for your sore throat. And don't lie flat in bed at night. Prop your self up with an extra pillow and try to breathe as deeply as you can at intervals when awake. Hope you soon get better. Happy New Year!

I think you have an infection.(hence the earache you had when all this started), It will only go with the help of anti-biotics which can only be prescribed by your gp. In the meantime, buy some TYROZETS from the chemist, they contain benzocaine to numb the throat, don't exceed the dose 'tho, and a teaspoon of honey held in your mouth and allowed to seep down your throat is great at soothing and coating the sore areas and will help calm the old coughing down. Nytol leaves you feeling groggy in the mornings but co-op sleep aid from their chemist doesn't for some reason, although they contain the same properties.Hopefully, once your throat/ cough has calmed down you'll be able to sleep but if you try these things and it's the same in 4 days time, see your doctor

Lots of tea (if you can find Yogi teas or Medicinal teas they work best), Airborne tablets in water are also too, they give you important vitamins but work best went you just start to feel sick.

Vicks has a product that you use in the shower, its a tablet that reacts to water and fills up your shower like a eucalyptus steam room...that helped me and smells good, also Vicks vapor rub on the chest.

Stay away from milky products and drink lots of clear liquids. Feel better...Happy New Year!

Your throat is probably sore from coughing...if you take Mucinex (an expectorant) it'll loosen up any phlegm so you can cough it up and get better sooner. The sore throat should leave shortly after the cough.
