i've never tried them, but i've seen different japanese snacks with this ingredient in it. i thought it was supposed to be dangerous to one's health??

Such a good question.
I don't know if it's actually healthy for you but I've found recipes using it.
Have a look at "Squid Ink Pasta" looks disgusting (it is black), but, by all responses it's delicious.
It uses a lot of squid ink.

Living in Greece, we eat squid often and yes, it is both healthy and delicious. However I have never heard of anyone eating the ink. When cleaning the squid you remove the ink sack and throw it out. If you ever visit Greece, try fried squide rings. I have seen people swearing that they hate the stuff and order seconds after trying them. Happy New Year!!

I had squid ink pasta (the pasta is black in colour) with tomato sauce or seafood white sauce many times in Italian restaurants, all tasted real good and I'm still alive. So, I guess the squid ink is harmless.

A lot of cultures use it in their foods. One time I bought squid ink pasta and served it to my bf, and it turned his mouth black. So be careful when you eat it! Happy 2007!!

Squid is healthy like other seafood. I like them friend hmmm so crunchy and salty, but squid ink? no, it isn't I'm sure !
