I thought I had hypoglycemia, but yesterday I ate over 1/2 of a cake (man was it good, too). Anyway, my blood sugar went up to 122! It normally is around the 75-95 range. I exercised really hard and then woke up drenched in sweat, a daily occurrence, and measured again and it was 95.

Keep in mind, it has dropped in the upper 60s before and I have gotten all the symptoms of hypoglycemia even when it was in the 70s. So for it to go into the 120s is unusual. Did I "sweat it off"? Why am I sweating at night and waking up with a normal sugar level?

Does this sound like I am about to get diabetes? Could the122 be b/c I ate a lot of cake? Shouldn't the exercise have lowered it right away?

I am panicking a bit if you can't tell....

Yes you should worry. The doctors say that any bs over 97 is a diabetic. You need to go to the doctor and have a proper diagnosis. My husband is a diabetic, and when you eat 1/2 of a cake,(which is an awful lot of cake, even for someone that has no problems with their blood sugars, are you addicted to sugar?) your bs is going to go too high! Then it crashes down, being too low! You are killing YOURSELF by not going to the doctor. My husband had a heart attack, and a stroke, because his blood sugars were bouncing around like yours is now. The sweats comes from your bs being too low. Your bs should never go below 100 when you are a diabetic. That is a good way to get yourself to go into a coma, and not come out of it!
You ask if you are getting diabetes, NO YOU HAVE diabetes! There is no in between, you either have it, or you don't! Get yourself to the doctor!

No, I don't think you should worry. And, no, you're not about to get diabetes. You can relax on that.

122 is actually a very normal blood sugar level. It may have seem high to you, given your normally lower levels, but it's not a high reading at all.

That 122 only resulted from eating the cake.

Hypoglycemia is having too LOW of a blood sugar level on a consistent basis.

You may need to get some glucose tablets at the store, to take when you feel your blood sugar has dropped too low. That can be a serious condition.

If you're really worried, you can always go check with a doctor.

But I think you're ok. Boy, I wish MY blood sugar level was only 122. Unfortunately, it runs a lot higher than that.

I wouldn't worry too much, if I were you. But keeping a close eye on how your blood sugar is doing is a good thing.

If exercise seems to drop it too low, then just cut back a bit on that.

122 is a normal blood sugar for someone who has eaten a cake. Below 99 is normal for a fasting blood sugar. Once you eat, it will go higher.

A fasting blood sugar of over 99 can be insulin resistance. The step before diabetes. An elevated fasting glucose and fasting insulin will tell you if you are insulin resistant.

Um, below 126 is normal for FASTING glucose, and you had a postprandial (after eating) glucose of less than that. You don't have diabetes (at least not based on that - why are you checking your blood sugar anyway?), I wouldn't worry about it unless you have some information that you didn't put in the question.

Unless you have diabetes why are you testing your blood? Your body will adjust its blood sugar to the environment, don't eat - low blood sugar, eat a cake - high blood sugar.

Eat healthy and you should be OK, If you have diabetes take you insulin and watch what you eat.

it seems like you have normal BS. I do not think you are predisposed for diabetes. When you eat cake you BS will go up but it is normal. So relax and sleep well and sweating at night probably related to anxiety that you might have about your health

If my sugar goes below 90, I get a headache and feel bad. It is different for everyone, but you need to have a follow up with your doctor as soon as possible

ohmygod.
I almost panicked while reading your question, you must really be panicking... ):
Go to a doctor, not Yahoo! Answers, is what i suggest.
We're deffinately not experts...
But I think diabetes is a good guess. It sounds reasonable..
But the other things you mentioned deffinately need to be told to a doctor..
