I was wondering.. My pulse is usually always around 72 at rest..Lately it doesn't seem to get lower than about 76 even when completely relaxed.. Today I noticed that I did a little exercise outside and then came in and waited about 30 minutes and it was still at 90 .If its at 90 after 30 minutes what does that mean when I was up exerting..Is this safe to go ahead and do things again ..I didn't seem to have any problems with anything just noticed my pulse was rather a little faster than normal.. when active..I have been checked by several doctors recently with good results but i had the flu for several weeks and am just now starting back to getting active..I was wondering if its ok for the pulse rate to go up while active and if it will go back down when resting.. Does this all sound normal?

Immediately after vigorous exercise your pulse may reach up to 150 then slowly die down. Your pulse elevation is not varied enough to be a big problem at the moment... Other factors like temperature and your mood also affect pulse =) If it elevates more / continues then see a doc.

No. That is not good. See your doctor.
If you are physically fit, no matter how strenuous the exercise, your pulse should drop back to it's normal low rate within 5 minutes of exercising.

I showed my doctor this. I walked up a 14 story building. She took my pulse at the top of the stairs. It was 123. 5 minutes later, it was 79. Even my breathing went back to normal.

Now SHE walks up and down the building once a day.

And I am 54 years old.

An elevated pulse after exercising is normal, but prolonged is slightly unusual. How old are you and how is the rest of your health? It really depends on that. Ask your doctors for more advice.
Ok- coffee will definately speed it up. You have nothing to worry, except a little paranoia.

The more anxious you are about your pulse being high the higher it will remain. It is ok to have your pulse high after exercise...just make sure you cool down properly after your workouts...don't just stop abruptly. Normal pulse pressure is between 60-100 and you fall within the normal limits. The key is to cool down after any workouts.

it is normal to have slightly elevated pulse right after and for a little time after excercising, but it is not supposed to stay elevated for a long time. Go see a doctor.

Talk to a doctor about it. You might have the initial stages of hypertension. Also, it is important to consider your family history for hypertension, heart attacks, and strokes. I suggest scheduling a talk with a cardiologist and discussing your worries. Especially if your problem persists.

Your pulse should stay exactly the same no matter what you are doing. That sounds very abnormal.
