It would have helped if you'd specified whether you just need to lower it right away, because it's a little high right now. Or whether you are wanting to lower it altogether.
If it's running high on a consistent basis, then the doctor will prescribe drugs to lower it. Glucophage and Glyburide are the 2 most common. I take those to keep mine down.
But if you just have a temporarily high reading, and want to get it down quickly, the only way to do that is with exercise.
When my mother's sugar level would read a little too high, she would go for a walk around the house to help bring it down. She'd just walk from one room to the next for about a half hour.
It helped.
You can also go get some supplements that are known to help regulate blood sugar levels.
Chromium Picolinate is the most well-known one. And I've heard Cinnamon helps as well.
The best way to reduce your sugar levels on a permanent basis is to reduce and cut out as much sugar and starches and simple carbohydrates. Those are the things that are elevating your sugar level.
Hope this helps.

You are smart to ask. Your doctor should guide you. There are three ways to manage glucose (blood sugar).
1. Diet
2. Exercise
3. Medication
Perhaps your doc could refer you to a diabetic nutritionist to assist you. I have diabetes, and trust me....if I had known then what I know now, I would have done everything I could to avoid it. A free site: www.fitday.com can help you track the carbs (which turn to sugar) in your diet.
I found, by experimentation, that walking for 10 minutes 2 hours after a meal, my blood sugar went down by 44 points. So try walking some as soon as you can after meals.
You can find great dependable information here: http://www.diabetes.org/about-diabetes.jsp Hope it helps!
Peace be with you!

I would suggest not eating so much foods with starch or sugar. Is your blood sugar up because you have a cold? That can sometimes be the cause of why your blood sugar is up. Exercise, eat right or try to even if it is the holidaysSalt could be the reason why it is up but possable a number of things. If I would you I would try talking to a doctor or the nurse that works for the doctor.

I take it that you are diabetic. If you need to use solely diet to get your blood sugar level down you should have been told by your GP to eat no sugar or fats i.e. pastry, cakes, biscuits, fried food etc. and to eat a well balanced healthy diet with small meals at regular intervals. It is much better to eat 4 small meals a day than 2 large ones. Plenty of exercise is also necessary.

Ok, my sister type 2 diabetic and she nearly went into coma once. Out of fear i researched and discovered a product from a company called arkworld called ark 1, which is Nitric oxide, she has been on this product for 6 months now, she was at 23+ points now she consistently at 3-5 points, it also lowered her hypertension completely, it has been dubbed the miracle molecule because it won the Nobel prize in 1998, it truly works. GPs don't know everything, they think they do! and too proud to admit they're wrong at times
I have now became a distrubuter for the company and have helped many others.

By changing your diet...lower your carbohydrate intake - bread, cakes, pastries, crisps, chocolates, sweets fizzy drinks etc and introduce more fresh foods such as vegetables and fruit that contain natural sugars. Also change butter and oils to low fat spreads and oils. And exercise more..not only will you lower your blood sugar level but you should start to feel fitter and healthier! Why not make it your goal for 2007 Good luck and Happy New Year to you. :O)
