I also have two meters.I have an Accensia contour and a Freestyle flash.
the contour has its pros but it takes 15 seconds to process the blood drop.(too long for me)The case is also pretty large.
The Freestyle flash is REALLY small and only takes 5 seconds to process the blood drop, and needs a tiny drop of blood. The case is small.
I would think a teen would want fast, cute and the smallest drop of blood possible! Thats the flash
If you can't get a monitor free from your dr,( and you should beable to) most companies will give you one if you call them and tell them you want to go with them but can't afford the monitor. (that was told to me by a person who works as a customer rep for one of those companies.)

Age does not matter, a good meter is a good meter :D
You can get a free meter from your diabetic care nurse or clinic. The current favourite seems to be AccuCheck models. I have a freestyle mini and an Ascentia countour, both are good;

Also, ask your doctor if he or she would refer you to a diabetic nutritionist. They can help you learn what to eat and what to limit, as well as give you ideas of alternative foods when you are out with friends.
There are 3 ways to change glucose:
1. Diet
2. Exercise
3. Medication
Diet is very important and could possibly keep you from having to use medication. It is also important to lose weight if you are overweight. Exercise can help blood sugar to decrease quite a bit if you do something like walk right after a meal. You need some guidance.

Okay. Well, the most accurate one I know of happens to be a BD meter. Here is a picture. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.technologypartners.org/images/paradigm.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.technologypartners.org/awards.html&h=294&w=300&sz=12&hl=en&start=4&tbnid=JFzM2EsE3EB8wM:&tbnh=114&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3DBD%2Binsulin%2Bpump%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D
You can get it at Wal-Mart or Wal-greens. It comes in light blue, purple, and a few basic colors like that. Those are also great with the insulin pumps that go with it.

^^^ That is the pump and the meter that's light blue. Pretty huh???
That's what my best friend uses. I know a lot about your condition from her and I feel for you.

OMgood ness. You have diabetes and no meter ?? How could this happen.
They are all good. Your doctor should be able to give you one for free.
They really need to get involved here.Talk to them or another adult you trust.
You cannot be expected to this all alone.
