dear! that could be very very bad.
You should see a doctor...
Well, I know from Madame Bovary *shudders* that at the extreme end - it could be dried up blood - you could have possibly bled into your lungs...
Not so extreme - it might just be muchas (sp) coated with smoke.
Either way, I would consult your doctor if you can...
Coughing up anything is not a good sign.
And - like the others suggested - you shouldnt smoke - I understand it is hard to quit and you probably like it - I have no sympathy for you - My mother and brother stopped cold turkey and havent touched a cigarette since.

Coughing Up Black Stuff

2016-10-16 13:22:04 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Unless you've ingested something that would result in this happening, I would think it's imperative to get to a doctor. There is one time I heard of someone who "claimed" this, they apparently had just turned to Christianity and had "asked God" to cleanse them of their smoking addiction...as the story goes they went through this tough time of sweats, chills, fevers and coughing up black whatever and after 2 or 3 days they were "cured" of their addiction and never touched a cigarette again.

How true that is I have no clue, it was a story told to my parents by someone else who'd heard it, so take it from there.

I still say see a doctor however...good luck and hope it turns out well for you.

The reason why everyone is telling you to go to the hospital is that it is not normal for you to be coughing up black stuff. Even people who have smoked for many years do not cough up black stuff.......it is a sign something is not right with your body...you need to listen to this sign and go.

You know a lot of people with cancer didn't know they had cancer until it had attacked their bodies already

There is an old saying...don't ask the question if you don't want to hear the answer. You don't want to stop smoking, you don't want to go to the hospital (and YES, my friend, you ARE sick...denial is more than a river in Egypt). Wake up and do something for yourself.

long time ago when i was sick and coughing like crazy the same thing would happen to me. At times i would feel it in my throat and would gagg to spit it out. I would think it was a clump of tartar lol ew. I know exactly what ur talking about but I got no idea what it is either.

Tar and smoke has built up in your lungs to the point that your body is trying to expel it. Also, it could be a huge sign of lung cancer. Black could indicate blood in your lungs. Go see a doctor.

probably that you have a lung infection, and you are coughing up the mucus from your lungs. GO TO THE HOSPITAL before you get worse. and at least try to cut back on the cigarettes. I know its hard, but it could save your life.

if it looks like coffee grounds, it is blood. you may have an ulcer in your stomach that is bleeding, otherwise it may be that you are coughing up some of the particles of the smoke from your lungs. just to be sure you should see your doctor.
