You might have had either one. Duck sauce is one thing, plum sauce is another, although they are similar. Duck sauce, incidentally, is not made from duck, but derived from the sauce traditionally made to serve with duck. Both are sweet sauces, gold to orange in color, and either one might be served with egg rolls or in those small packets that come with Chinese take-out.

Well, actually, I believe you are both probably correct. Kind of like six one way and half a dozen the other. I mean, some people call it duck sauce and others call it plum sauce...but I think it is basically the same thing. It is a sweet sauce that is usually made of plums or apricots and used as a dip for egg rolls and other Chinese appetizers. Come on, grow up, who cares what the hell it is called. It is good and you dip your egg roll in it. Just eat it and be quiet.

Actually you're both right. The sauce they served with the egg rolls(and other deep fried foods)is called either duck sauce, or plum sauce. It is made of wild plums and is a condiment. So, whoever ate the egg roll I guess is the one who's full of it.

I have always noticed that duck sauce has a watery apple sauce texture, whereas plum sauce is more like a goo...They have different flavors too.

In the Chinese buffet we go to, the sauce is LABELED as "plum sauce".
You are right.
There is a duck sauce, but it is much different in color and taste.
