just ask at the ford dealer. but itll be a 4 speed. 123 and drive. and why a new gearbox, in over 20 years ive never had a box fail..its usuallly the torque converter which needs fluid. to check accurately start car, go thru prnd123..and back, 123dnrp AND BACK TO DRIVE..this fills all the chambers and gives you an accurate reading.
and if you do need a box, youre looking at 500 quid fitted. look in autotrader.co.uk

You have a 4 speed box - but not for the reason some people are giving. The REAL mechanics are correct.
You have D for 'drive', and 1,2 & 3 as range limiters - ie. to hold it in 1st, or just 1st & 2nd, or just 1st,2nd & 3rd.
4th is your top gear - which is accessed using 'D' to give the full range of gears.
Reverse is NEVER counted as a gear when listing types.

are you confident its the starter motor? not something on the main would be some issues. battery, starter solenoid, the risk-free practices cutout on the gearbox...any a form of ability no flow. first, examine the battery is done. next, examine the terminals and connections on the starter motor, on the battery, and in case you may the PRNDL selector. some autos (automobiles) would be began by using towing them upto 30mph, ive in no way tried it, and wouldnt reccomend it, as youll have not have been given any capacity steerage or brakes until; the engine fires. and be careful, it may purely be 12 volts, yet its additionally in much better than one hundred amps and with that a lot capacity cables soften and capture hearth in case you pass the incorrect wires coz you dont be attentive to what youre doing. the easy selection is to telephone the AA/RAC

the mechanic who is going to do the job for you can take a gearbox code letter of the chassis No to make sure he is buying the correct gear box for the car.

Are you sure you need a new gearbox? I'd get a transmission specialist to look at it first - it may not be as drastic as you think
