6000 BC Tobacco starts growing in the Americas. Tobacco in its original state is native only to the Americas.
1493 AD Rodrigo de Jerez became the first European smoker in history. One of Christopher Columbus's fellow explorers, he took his first puff of the New World's version of the cigar in Cuba. When he returned home he made the mistake of lighting up in public and was thrown into prison for three years by the Spanish Inquisition - becoming the world's first victim of the anti-smoking lobby!

Smoker of what? Native americans smoked tabacco and loco weed in thier peace pipes and in asia and the middle east they smoked opium and from what I have read they smoked , smoke , chew cocoa leaves where they grow all that at down southhhhhhhhhhhhhhh of the border. way down south like south america south.
Since the first smoker of anything wouldnt of matter much to anyone since no one knew the health risks involved with smoking I doubt that person will ever be known.

Good old Adam should have been the first smoker in the world, with all the problems that he had, being kicked out of Paradise and all, he must have found solace in smoking the first dry leaves that he found on the ground before him.
