t strikes me that though God would say something to one person he would intend it to be for Everyone, yet, when you or anyone quotes that verse i cant help to think if it was not Gods word to everyone but Pauls words to the people in his church and immediate Circle of authority and most importantly to those only that lived in that generation.
I think in order to be included in the royal generation you have to be ordained with them! like Aaron was ordained by the laying on of hands.

i know that these links can show some sort of religious organization and linear order. and i know that several people have posted other rebuttles like Martin luther and verses that say something totally different.
it comes down to Correct interpretation, NOT what we are taught.

1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,
Christina adds this important verse. but she does not realize this is the verse i tried to cite in my additional details.
How do we know these are the words of God and not just the words of Paul or Peter.? His audience was the church and those that are members in the church of jesus christ. Those in the contemporary church he was talking about.

additional reading of christina's question begs the question ARE all people that believe the chosen generation and a royal priesthood? if the word "all" is emphasised in her question, Did Peter truly mean that all of us! are the same generationand chosen generattion? that has priesthood?

Mzenner opposes what christina answer portrays. by saying: After all Christ gave the keys to Peter to lead his flock. If you get a chance go to biblechristiansociety.com
this too is very important! this added detail only makes the catholic church with priesthood authority. Did peter have the authority to form the catholic church did the catholic church jijack authority because of what jesus said to peter. Some people claim that Jesus gave authority to James before Peter received it. or not at all, some claim jesus didnt give peter authority but tried to recognize REvealation as being "THE ROCK" by which all things are made known?

There are really good answers here, it shows faith in everyone, but doeseveryone say the gospel truth? IF every stone has a different ministry than all churches have authority, but what if all are apostate and lost all authority does it need to be restored like the Mormon church testified! then again do the mormons have it still or is just become the same as everyone else?

I have no idea about what God desires for us in order to become "the royal generation," (except being washed in the blood of the Lamb) what do you mean by this? Peter clearly states we all are a royal priesthood, and I'm pretty sure he didn't mean by anointing or laying of hands.

Heb 7:11 "If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?"
The records of the early Christian tradition leave no doubt that Christian priesthood is not a "function" necessary for the institutional being of the Church. Nor is it an autonomous, isolated and self sufficient office belonging to the ordained individual. It is rather a ministry related and belonging to the entire ecclesial body. We can think of it as an anaphoral reality which is always in reference to and leads to the saving communion of the Body of Christ
priesthood in no way is a ministry introducing division or classification within the ecclesial body. Between a priest and a lay person there is no legal distinction but precisely what we may call charismatic distribution. As we read in I Corinthians (12: 4-6): "There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministry but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all". This means that through ordination a member of the Church is set apart in order to minister the sacrament of ecclesial unity.

Authority and priesthood are two separate things in the Church. Authority is given to positions such as Elders, Deacons, Pastors, Teachers, Etc. There is a process by which a person becomes one. It starts with the desire that God puts in a person to be one, then moves to them meeting Biblical qualifications.
1 Timothy 3:1 "It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach..."
A priest in the Bible is an intercessor, and all believers in Christ are priest by the very act of being a born again believer. We all have the right to interact directly with God through prayer and thus intercede with Him on behalf of others.
1 Peter 2:5 "you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."
1 Peter 2:9 "But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;"

As far as the laying of hands, it makes sense that after Christ died there had to be organization, the Catholic Church, with the laying of hands making people bishops and priests. After all Christ gave the keys to Peter to lead his flock. If you get a chance go to biblechristiansociety.com and go to the free talk "apostolic authority and the pope." John Martignoni gives plenty of examples in Acts and so forth on the laying of hands. I'm not to sure what is meant by when you say the royal generation.

The authority of the true Priesthood, from God, can only be given to another from one whom already holds it. We believe when the gospel was restored, so was the Priesthood. Joseph literally received the Aaronic Priesthood then Melchezidek Priesthood from those Heavenly messengers who already held it.
Joseph Smith History:
68 While we (Joseph and Oliver Cowdery) were thus employed, praying and calling upon the Lord, a messenger from heaven descended in a cloud of light, and having laid his hands upon us, he ordained us, saying:
69 Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.
70 He said this Aaronic Priesthood had not the power of laying on hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, but that this should be conferred on us hereafter; and he commanded us to go and be baptized, and gave us directions that I should baptize Oliver Cowdery, and that afterwards he should baptize me.
71 Accordingly we went and were baptized. I abaptized him first, and afterwards he baptized me—after which I laid my hands upon his head and ordained him to the Aaronic Priesthood, and afterwards he laid his hands on me and ordained me to the same Priesthood—for so we were commanded.*
72 The messenger who visited us on this occasion and conferred this Priesthood upon us, said that his name was John, the same that is called John the Baptist in the New Testament, and that he acted under the direction of Peter, James and John, who held the keys of the Priesthood of Melchizedek, which Priesthood, he said, would in due time be conferred on us, and that I should be called the first Elder of the Church, and he (Oliver Cowdery) the second. It was on the fifteenth day of May, 1829, that we were ordained under the hand of this messenger, and baptized.
They were also ordained to the office of the Melchezidek Priesthood later.

I'm guessing you are a Mormon, if so, you and i do not have the same beliefs, but that's OK. I'm not sure of what quote you are referring to, my # 1 thing i need to say, is we do not need a priest, we have Jesus, to confess to, he should be the only one we go to. i have a question for you.....if you were very sick, would you go see a doctor, or would you go see the docs mother or his friend????no, you wouldn't, you will go straight to the doctor..that's how it should be with Jesus....Ive already told you to have a happy new year, but there it is again....
