I was wondering how many younger guys, say under 30, regularly carry a handkerchief? I ask because I use them, (I am 33) and some younger guy said to me the other day he thought they were for older guys, so I want to dispell his myth.

Your mate is right, they are carried mostly by older males.
My Grandfather, older Uncles all do (all over 50).
Nobody I know, under 30 carry them.
But who cares, if you like to, why not continue?
You'll always be able to blow your nose, lend it to a distressed lady, cough into it, wipe an oil stick, use it as a buffer to a hot radiator cap, tie the corners and use it as a hat, wipe your sweaty brow........

I see construction workers using handkerchiefs all the time. They use them for everything. They will use it as a sweat rag all day and then blow thier nose in it and stick it in thier pocket.
It is alot better to use a tissue of course but since men do not carry purses it makes it rather difficult for a man to carry around a pack of tissues and in an emergency lets say you are in a meeting and need to sneeze . Are you going to run out of the room to the bathroom for tissue? NO , and having the handkerchief handy in your pocket takes care of the whole problem. The reason why the guy told you that it is only for older guys is because he is probably still using the back of his hand or sleeve to wipe his nose. There is nothing wrong with you using a handkerchief for emergencies but if you have a very runny nose I would think it would be best to stay home with a box of tissue near by.

A gentleman should always carry a handkerchief not to use it on their nose, but just in case a lady would need one to wipe something off etc.
I read that same Bond book years ago and have since used nothing but tissues. It IS a strange custom to use a handkerchief when you stop to think about it.

(LOL) in his training he usesa handkerchief. his trainer says that asian men never use anything but tissue and throw it away. they think it is strange to carry the expectorated mucus with you the rest of the day.

I used to go out with a chap who grow to be a stolid handkerchief person. different than he used to call them his "hanky puffs", which no longer remotely eye-catching. He ensured he had a minimum of three with him at every physique time and saved them under his pillow at night. nostril blowing might variety a distinctive ritual. on the 1st sign of snot, he might whip out the hanky with a flouncing action and carry it for a whilst in his upturned hand as he persevered his conservation, gesticulating with it. Then as he utilized it to his nostril an extremely loud, trumpeting noise might take place. at some point, I asked him why he made lots noise. He stated it grow to be frequent. So I asked him to demonsrate on my on nostril how he used the hanky. He gripped my nostril so tightly it grow to be bruised. interestingly he had to construct up a stable head of steam for the utility to be seen efective. of direction the full element grow to be a daft affectation designed to make human beings think of he grow to be "cool". i did no longer think of he grow to be cool and the relationship failed, unsurprisingly.

School children are given hankerchiefs and they continue to use hankerchiefs when they grow up. Nothing wrong with that if they are washed after using.
