I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 7 years ago, when I was still attending college and had a silly one-night stand. There is no cure for herpes, but there are things you can do to prevent or minimize breakouts. They are as follows; 1) keep stress to a minimum 2) eat a healthy diet, avoiding too much chocolate, almonds & caffeine 3) take a Lysine tablet every day under the following circumstances; -you are under a lot of stress and cannot control it -you "feel" a breakout coming on -you are already broken out 4) If you suffer from frequent outbreaks, talk to you doctor about Valtrex or Zovirax.

No cure that I know of. But to lessen the sores when they flare up, try Lactinex tablets. Ask your pharmacist. They really work for cold sores, so maybe they would work for herpes also. They replace "good" microorganisms in the body which help hold the herpes virus at bay. This is what my pharmacist told me. I know from experience that they help with cold sores.
Topically, white cider vinegar might help.
