The Roma People (or Gypsies) are not of Romanian descent. They came originally from India and started migrating in the XI century.
The Pikey or Knacker is a pejorative term applied to Irish streetwise people.

Pikey is a slang word, generally abusive, for any member of any travelling community.
Gypsy refers originally to those of Roma descent, whether they travel or not. The Roma people are anciently from India, and Romani language has many words similar to Hindi. Confusingly, many Gypsies in UK today, and most of those that are highlighted in the press for begging, are in fact from Romania; but please most Gypsies/Roma are either born in UK or have come here to work for a better life for themselves and their children than is open to them in Eastern Europe.
The word Roma, Romani is not related to the word Romanian - it comes from the words Rom, Romni meaning man and woman in their language, whereas Romania has it's name from the Romans who settled there.
Some people fell that Gypsy is not acceptable as a name, as it leads to confusion with other travelling communities, but what is most important is the attitude, not whether people get confused with a word. The people that go on about people being smelly are racists who don't care about such distinctions anyway.

No difference at all, both considered politically incorrect these days. Travelling people or migratory people is more acceptable.

I don't no what a pikey is but .I know gypseys along with the rainbow people and the hippys dont like to work allot.So I guess their into not doing anything but smoking pot and lack of showers.
