Go to a doctor and find any health issues that are creating the depression. Possibly it's medication you are currently taking. If doctor finds no health issue's. Go to a psychiatrist and talk with someone about your depression. There are also...on line help. Regardless...nothing to be ashamed of, several people one time in their life needs help w/depression. Don't wait to seek help, longer one waits the depression could become worse.

Please dont just go for the 1st pill a doctor suggests to you..Prozac costs pennies to make per pill and they dont help in a lot of cases..They often act as a placebo as many others do..if you have a good gp then he will suggest a better pill..Citalopram is a great one..But tablets alone do not work. These are also expensive for the doc to prescribe as they are on a budjet. You need to work with the tablets.Eat Little and often..Even when u dont feel like it. This will keep your sugar levels up.Dont sleep the day in bed.Do something you used to love doing (Hobby etc). This can all help.Dont be ever told its just a phase you are going thru.It can be genetic.I have had my depression for 5 yrs now.A yr ago i took 5 overdoses in a short space of time.I damaged my liver but now i am on the road to recovery.I have good days and bad. Some days i wont talk to anyone but other times i pick myself up and dust myself off.I am 34.This has been going on since i was 29.But i am now a grandmother to a 5 month old baby boy and his smile and my childrens brighten my days up.Life will get better but please go and find help as it will not come to you.
best wishes Kaeylarae xxxxxxxxxx

No easy fix i`m afraid and i know its hard to ever envisage not feeling as you do BUT...

See the doc, nothing matter with a little chemical help to start with if the depression is severe.

Specifically do things that bring you happiness, anything, just do it, be selfish for a while, don't dwell on if that makes you a "bad person" do it, you need it

Avoid like the plague anything that makes you feel less happy, unless its totally unavoidable. again feel free to be selfish you need to, its only for a while and you can pay back in spades when fit (in fact make this part of your motivation)

Exercise, must must must do it... mood lifter and self image enhancer.

Try and get a look at your life, you may be depressed because you are leading a life that you feel is against your values . If that's the case your depression may not be so incomprehensible.

If you have a faith (even a humanistic one) it helps

Be true to yourself, if you like and respect yourself you will not be depressed. take a personal inventory of your qualities, you will find that your a pretty OK person that harms no one intentionally and has decent intentions, you will find you are human, with normal defects, but OK.

THINK something different and DO something different. Sounds simple, but it isn't easy. It will work.

Read a book called "Choice Theory" by Dr. William Glasser. Apply the concepts and you will find that you have a very powerful mind that can help you significantly with depression. I am Reality Therapy Certified by the William Glasser Institute. This theory is the only thing that helped me after being a first responder to the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995.

You can read a very brief summary of the theory at http://www.wglasser.com/whatisct.htm... you might also consider finding the book in your public library or purchasing it at http://www.wglasser.com/pricelst.htm... for only $15.00 which is a much better investment than medication.

Couple this with prayer and you should be feeling much better very soon!

Peace be with you!

I could give you a whole pile of suggestions. I'm currently recovering from a four and a half year long battle with severe post-natal depression, bordering on psychosis, with an acute anxiety disorder with a tendancy to apocolyptic panic attacks. Fun.
There are many things I have done to help myself get better (the most important of which has been kinesiology), but to keep this answer shorter than War & Peace, I'll recommend two very short books you should read:
Heal Thyself, and The 12 Healers. Both by a guy called Edward Bach. They might be a bit hard to find, but by God they're worth the effort :) Very short books, but very powerful stuff.

try doing regular exercise. Walking or cycling is fine or maybe swimming. Only get meds if you are really struggling and don't rely on them to lift you alone.

Try to join a group activity, maybe something that you always wanted to do but just never got around to doing. Also try and stay away from alcohol as this will only compound the situation.

Please take care of yourself and don't think about it too much, you WILL get through it.

If it is a clinical depression (chemical imbalance) then antidepressants work well. Exercise also helps, along with keeping busy but not overly busy. Counselling can help along with learning coping techniques from a counsellor or Community Psychiatric Nurse. All the best to you

Learning to play music (guitar) has helped me a lot, also going for long walks in the country is good too.

i found just getting out of the place you live in works - even to the shops gave me a little more confidence each time. also keeping busy whether it was house work or visiting relatives and by putting my favourite music on full blast - music with a happy or uplifting beat mind!!!! i was also lucky enough to have my husband - daniel j, to talk to as he also knew how i felt.
