Instead of a draft, I'd like to see compulsory service, similar to what Israel has.
All men and women upon turning 18 or 19 enter the military service of their choice for a term of 18 or 24 months for basic service, not for combat action.
Those who have a desire to reenlist should then have their choice of ratings or MOS's and advancement in rank. Those who don't reenlist will serve shore duties, National Guard, fleet support, supply, perhaps some overseas duties in non-hazard areas.
The military is beginning to get involved more and more in charity work, rescue, disaster relief, and a lot of other non-combat services that don't require men with guns. The compulsory service would serve to discipline and educate everyone in the country and give them a view of the world that they don't get in public schools.
It would also give young people college benefits and a steady full time income, while it would give our country a very large and formidable ready reserve to draw on trained as active duty, not as weekend warriors. No offense to reservists, but it's got to be a hard transition from reserve to active status.

Since our draft is all volunteer, one would think that if you sign up to join the military, you have a good chance that you will be involved with guns and shooting. A draft would blindly take all form a group of people to serve, how would that benefit supporters?

myself I feel that any teen or early 20.s not attending a school after 18 should serve the country. that may come by free education with some service or just joining the military in the many needed positions. Hey, the military needs folks for humanitarian needs, doctors, nurses, technicians etc.it is not about going out and shooting people or being shot. we have a grand duty

No. There are plenty of "war supporters" joining and re-enlisting in the armed services. Some are now volunteering for their 3rd and 4th tour in Iraq.
What do have against the fight for freedom?
Socialists...
