I am an independent student with a toddler and baby due May 25th, It won't be possible for me to work until or July/August having just had the baby end of May. Will I get loan instalments throughout the summer or will I have to find some other means of income?

You won't get student loan installments but as a single parent you can sign on for income support during July and August. Talk to the finance office at your uni and they should be able to give you information about hardship funds available. The hardship fund will often provide money for June and September when you are unable to claim benefits. They will also top up payments you receive for childcare and help out with transport costs, but it is by application and dependent on funds being available. You can also claim housing benefit and they will help you to do this if your local council say you are not entitled. You are and they will take this up with your housing department if necessary. You can also claim extra child tax credits when your baby is born and second child benefit. The finance Dept at my uni are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, hopefully yours will be too. Good Luck!

loans and grants cover ANY school expense or living expense..If you have not taken out the full loans (stafford and unstaf) for fall and spring, you will qualify for some in the summer (IF you are taking classes at least part time). If u are a single parent, there are programs thru DCFS which will pay daycare while u are in college/and or working (or both)..Congrats

There are a lot of scholarships available. I suggest going to Google and conducting a search from there. I actually won a $5,000 scholarship about a year ago, and I recently found another contest by the same company for a $10,000 scholarship. It's free to enter, so there's no reason not to.

I don't know about loans. I do know there is a lot of free money out there-grants. Why do you want to owe a ton of money after you graduate? Take the initiative and talk to your financial aid office and then go out on your own and see what is out there. Most grants are not used. Go get those freebies.

you willl have to find other means of income. student loans cover only tuition. i would go to a bank and look at a personal loan. or perhaps welfare until you can get another means of income. or is there a family member that can help support you? or the baby's father?

It depends on the college. You should call/e-mail the college and ask them directly.
