I had an iud inserted a couple days ago and I haven't felt right since. The doc said I would have mild cramps but the pain feels the way I did after I had my son. He gave me some pain medicine 800, but it is not working. The doc also said I will spot, but I will be walking and feel wet because a large amount of blood has come out of me. This morning I used the bathroom and it was a blood clot. I don't want to sound like a wimp, but I'm scarred. I should have done my research before having this inserted. I thINK I'm going to have it removed. I'm to afraid to have sex with my husband because of the pain I feel. If you've had an iud please write me and let me know if the pain, blood clots and large amounts of blood is normal or if you think something is wrong.

Long ago I had the Dalkon Shield inserted. It was the most painful damaging thing I have ever done to my body. I have had several since then without all the problems. If you are having clots, you are bleeding. If you are bleeding it is cutting you up. Get it out immediately. You should have no pain and just a little cramping that should go away immediately. When you have it removed, save it. Put it somewhere. I kept the Dalkon Shield in for a couple of years with severe cramping because they told me it would be a little cramping and I didn't want to be called wimp. It cut me up so bad and then that got infected. The infection went up my tubes and damaged the cillia (not sure how to spell that) but you can't move your eggs and you cant get pregnant and then to my ovaries. One ovary actually attached to my stomach wall. I had to have a hysterectomy and oopherectomy(remove ovary) so no children. Get it out, Get it out, Get it out. When they settled the Dalkon Shield lawsuit I got about $1000 and I couldn't have children. My lawyer laughed at me for being stupid. My claim was reduced because I didn't take it out, therefore, it couldn't have been that painful. Plus he laughed when I talked about painful sex. Keep it. If you have damage (it may take years and years to have it show up), keep all your medical records and sue them. If it is cutting you, you will have scarring and damage. An IUD should not damage you. The people that invented and sold the Dalkon Shield were never approved to sell the shield as it was distributed. After they knew they were damaging women badly in the US, they sold it in third world countries and tore up a generation of women there.
Get it out, get it out, get it out. If your doctor cannot explain why this iud is so painful, get another doctor immediately. Something is wrong and I would hate to know the same thing is happening again.

Another explaination could be the copper that some IUD's contain. You could be allergic to copper. I would have the thing removed. I honestly feel that there are better form of birth control out there. I have a friend that has had an IUD for several years, and she's always been completely satisfied with hers. I even considered one myself a couple years ago, until I found out how they work! It was a hell no for me, after that.

Depo Provera is a good choice, if you're wanting something that you don't have to worry about so often

They have a patch now. I had a friend on that, an she LOVED it.

There's always the pill too. It sounds like you're wanting something long term here. If that's the case I would try one of the first two methods.

Good luck and I hope you feel better! Happy New Year

I would call your doctor back. A little bit of blood is not uncommon, but, you shouldn't have a lot. You also shouldn't have more than mild cramps. I'm sure all is fine, but, I would get it checked out.

Your instincts are right. Have it out ASAP. My (former) OB pressured me so strongly to have one put in. If he would've had his way I would've left the office with one. Instead, I took the brochure home and read all the fine print. I have health conditions that contraindicate ever having one put in. But he didn't bother asking and therefore didn't know. I hope all of this resolves soon for you, dear.

If there is large bleeding and the thread is missing, it may so happen that the IUD has already been expelled. consult your Doc.

if you don't feel right, go back to the doctor. go on the pill, or use condoms. don't insert things like that into your boby.
