I was over there in 2003 and I saw this happen with girls all the time. Heck no you shouldnt give her a chance you are doing one of the hardest things you will ever have to do in your life and she didnt even want to wait for you she needs to be kicked out of the USA for not having more respect for our troop and for you as a person.

Well, first of all i would leave the ex as just that, an ex. If she couldn't "wait" for you, she will find some other reason to not wait in the future, Iraq or no Iraq, like you have to work late, or you need to go away on a business trip, forget her, she is lacking. I mean I could see her not "waiting" if you were going away to some island for a couple months w/your buds fishing, but you were deployed man, sounds like shes pretty selfish and unreliable.
With regard to the friend, why not?...Do make plans to see her and then see how it goes....what have you got to lose?...Things may or may not work out great but you will have someone to spend time with and you never know, alot of the best relationships that last start out with friendships, take it slow, but take it. God bless you and stay safe, I hope you get to come for good and soon.

I was in the Marines, and thats a big NEGATIVE on the ex. She'll wind up doing it again. Try your friend, plus its good not to be thinking about other people when deployed.

If your girlfriend could not wait for you while you are at war, then I would move on. Did she write to you often while you were fighting? Did you write to her? I guess another question is to you want to be with her? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I change my answer to yes, you should give her another chance.

I'd go for the friend, if you and your ex don't have any kids together.
