no, neither should lethal injection, the electric chair or any other method of killing a degenerate. Why should taxpayers pay for these evil creatures to go on living when they had such a blatant disregard for anyone else?? Why worry if it hurts a criminal when they die ?? They probably hurt or worse many people with their actions to get the death sentence to begin with. To heck in a hand basket with political correctness. Kill all the dirty bastards, the pedophiles, the serial killers, the rapists, kill them all...slowly and very, very painfully !!!

I think it is for mass murderers like Saddam. I believe society has a right to see justice done, and I don't know if being in jail for the rest of ones life really gives the same sense of justice being done.
One of the Nazi war criminals was in jail until the day he died. The problem is sometimes people forgot why he was there and published his version of events rather than looking at the court case.
I do think it is important to seperate the people like Saddam from the average murderer.
The biggest problem with a death sentence is in the case of a miscarriage of justice, you can't say sorry and try and make amends for the mistake.
From the point of view of the victims relatives I think the death sentence is more appealing because he will be judged by God, which is far worse, but is this the best solution? At least there is no possiblity of someone visiting him in 20 years time and putting his claims he was completely innocent on the internet.
Also with a death sentence there is no possiblity of someone trying to force his release by kidnapping a large number of people and holding them hostage, nor will his outbursts in court be broadcast around the world.

Hanging has been abolished in the U.S.
I think that if we decide capital punishment is the right way to go, using a method that is slightly more painful than another shouldn't cause us any worries. Not that I am saying that people should be executed in cruel and twisted ways, it's just that the idea of humanely killing someone has always seemed strange to me - what's 20 seconds of pain when you're dead and gone afterwards anyway?

Personally, I think it's a fairly graphic way to die. As much as some people deserve an agonizing death, I don't think I'd really want to watch such a thing.
There should be little fanfare and spectacle when a violent criminal is put to death. They don't deserve all that attention and ritual. Just kill them quickly and move on to the next scumbag.

What world wide? Because as far as I know their are no Western countries that still hang folks. Na, not really. I'm a big advocate for the death penalty and I have no problem with those being executed feeling some pain before they die. Just me though.

No.
To @ling@ @ and Z: Forget about the "ouch" factor. The person who receives such a sentence didn't think of the "ouch" he she was causing when committing the crime.
To all Human Rights activists: Stop giving the criminal more rights than the society they threatened and hurt.

A prior poster said that the US has banned hanging. That's not true. At least 1 state (Washingtion) still allows execution by hanging. A number of states also allow execution by firing squad or gas chamber. When there is a choice of execution methods, the prisoner is typically able to chose which method s/he "prefers."
All methods of execution are painful, cruel, and unusual...

Yeah... I think death sentence should be abolished. Any human being shouldn't be submitted to that sort of cruelty. Besides if they were hung or killed then those murderers are just taking the easy way out. They should suffer for what crimes they had done and find a right way to redeem themselves. Let them live through life knowing everyday the things they had doen and that would simply be the punishment for them...

It's not our sentence. It's Iraq's. We don't hang people in the U.S. when we put them to death.
That said, I think the death penalty should be abolished entirely in all its forms. Most of the rest of the world agrees, by the way. The U.S. is the only first world democracy in which it is still legal.
Every year we kill innocent people. But even if we could be 100% positive, I don't believe that the appropriate, moral, civilized response to violence is more violence.

No I think when people murder, rape people & sexualy abuse kids they should die. I don't know why people are feeling sorry for the ones who do these crimes! You should be feeling sorry for the families of the ones that suffered!!!!
