So when the police are in the middle of a taxi transport, and there is an emergency call for someone being shot, or another true emergency, what do they do with the passenger? Just put them out? Can you imagine the complaints this would generate? Also, what about the time it would take to 'terminate" the cab ride? If it is your child or mother who's home is being broken into, and they are being assaulted, do you want them to have to take the time to do that? Police interaction with the community should come from community policing, something that used to be practiced frequently, and is being taught more often again. This is where the officer, usually during daylight hours, parks his/her vehicle, and walks several blocks in town. They go inside shops, speak with owners, customers. They speak to citizens in their yards. The departments host events like bike rodeos and car shows to involve the community. They help neighborhoods start watch groups. Even if illegal activity is seen while delivering a pizza, laws are in place that would prevent the officer from being able to enter without permission. The changes need to come from both the law enforcement departments and the communities they serve to strengthen the relationship.

I'm guessing this is not a serious question but I'll play along...
How is it more efficient and cost effective to add MORE responsibility to an already overburdened police force? Every major law enforcement agency in the country is already stretched thin and now you want them delivering pizzas? And how pissed would you be if your pizza was delayed by 4 hours because your "delivery guy/cop" had to respond to an in-progress armed robbery?

In the UK it takes the police 5 days to contact you if your car is stolen and 2 hours to respond to some 999 emergency calls.
You could ask them to deliver your pizza if you want - but you would need to order it three days ahead and have the oven on to reheat it !

Do we get to keep the tips?
Actually I'm so busy on most of my shifts that many, many times I don't get a lunch break. ( Wait a minute!!!Good Idea! This way I could eat the pizza while on my way to that third violent domestic dispute of the night).

where i live, in eastern europe, many of the taxi drivers are undercover cops. the drivers are either mafia or cops, so its tricky. the pizza deliverers are just ordinary people.
