Most of my mother's recipes using self-raising flour also use some baking powder. You have more control, though, if you use plain flour and baking powder (or bicarbonate of soda on its own).

Yes, if the recipe calls for baking powder too, then you would also use it.

self raising flour already this in it ,but you can .always add more.
sift with the flour.
