I don't really see how it was at one time a philosophy and then became a religion. The most generalized idea of Islam is a return to the pure faith of Abraham - to avoid the trappings of the Law that Mohammed felt had plagued Judaism, and the trappings of ascribing divinity to a man for which Mohammed faulted the Christians. That seems to be a religion through and through, at least according to my undertanding of religion.

Islam is a religion; this is how it started, how it is and how it will always be. Prophet Muhammad just conveyed what was revealed to him from Allah to us; neither added, held back nor changed anything.

Islam is not a philosophy, its a true religion...and Muhammad(pbuh) did nothing except for telling peoples wht is the message of Allah,
But You will Never beleive this ....and we realy don't care if you believe or not !!!

Islam is a state of existence. It is the way the believers live. If one believes in the word of Allah as given to the Prophet Muhammad and submits his way of life to satisfy the will of Allah (God) then that person is a Muslim ( one who submits to the will of God).

It can be both. Go read about the Sufis, Mutazalis and the Falasuf. They all used reason, logic and philosophy to support their religion. Peace.
