Yes, if not "God", humans need to believe in something; whether it is a myth, fairytale, religion, or even about nothing. That’s why we he have so many folklore stories and mythology, besides today’s views.

Living for eternity and God don't need to go together - many early beliefs involved Gods but not eternal life.
Humans are naturally inclined towards a belief in God because they are inclined to seek causes for the effects they experience. When an effect can't be explained (lightning, flooding, death in general) by immediate circumstances, then an abstraction is needed as the source of the problem (or of the good fortune, in other circumstances). The Gods have, throughout their history, filled this role as the prime causal force in the world.

KNOWING and BELIEVING is not enough. Direct experience is beyond KNOWING and BELIEVING.We were born out of God's perfect creation, but into sin (into this world). It is necessary to have BELIEF in God if you are new in spirit, dying to the old self and/or born again. However, depending on the individual, having BELIEF will, sooner or later have it's limitations. For me, after a while, I began to realize having BELIEF in God continued to separate me from God. Going in and directly having an experience with God does not require BELIEF. It is beyond BELIEF. It is beyong time, space, and language. It is right in our faces everyday. Except most people unfortunately do not realize this. I will give you a clue as to why this is so. You will have to do the work to find out for yourself so it will be more meaningful. Nothing will be taken for granted here. LOOK up the word, BELIEF in the Webster's dictionary of modern English and define BELIEF and BELIEVE. Then look up the word in the Old English (Anglo Saxon) dictionary and SEE what you discover. Remember to be thorough and check the definitions of other very distinctive words of BELIEF and BELIEVE. You'll understand how the word has been euphemized. Then you will understand why it was euphemized. Other than that, I have nothing to sell you. Just giving a clue. You are on your own. Happy trails.

I think both. Religion , belief in God is universal. Before the explosion of modern technology which has delude many men by its effectiveness and success, belief in God was nearly universal even among the mose highly educated and top philosophers, it was never denied that there was a Deity, only what He is about.
Becasue reason leads to belief inGod, naturally, only the bewilderment and bewitchment of modern technology has so blinded man that he thinks for some reason that success in his endeavors some how proves there is no God, don't ask me how that connects. ? Because I can build a television therefore there is no God? Or becuase I can fly to the moon, there fore there is noGod? That is really the erroneous idea. God is a necessary conclusion of ratioanl thought unless interfered with by hostile thoughts.

Humans are disinclined to believe and obey God. That is the nature of the human mind. Human thought believes in itself as being an entity, without any link to God, and this is where problems start. By itself, humans believe in death, and that God doesn’t exist, until the truth starts to change this error of belief.

The majority of people need faith to live. Faith give them power to be attached to life and mostly make them happy in their life. God brings hope. God unite people but although God solved alot of problems concerning the explanation of human existence , He didnt solve the problem of his existence and he created another problem by making different relegions and beleifs for people which lead to alot of wars in the past, present and future as long as different relegions control people. i think people will have a better life if they have only ony relegion that control them or they be more realistic and reject all relegions and start a new civilian world based on laws and understanding the values of human civilization.

its helps us through life..if you didnt believe in an afterlife what would you do in this one.. nothing. it gives us hope and keeps people busy instead of being depressed saying well what the heck im gonna die anyway .what would we do if we knew there was no after life that this was all there was.. Its a good thing to have hope and it also keeps us alive and fairly happy .. read the buddist text on this ,it can be found by doing a simple search on depression a buddist view on the search engine. its about more than depression but speaks also about what you ask..Im not promoting religion here but its more logical about how our thoughts are about life and why we feel like we do ..its more logic than religion..it will help you find what you seek..

I am not religious, but I am going to tell you what I think about god. I think someone made him up, the bible too. Think about it, when the bible was written, people were very gullible, they would believe anything. I think they started to believe it and it just got more and more popular. The only thing the christian religion has is the bible, hundreds of millions of people believe in god because of one book. That's it, one book, they have no proof, they have never seen him, or anything that has to do with him, no matter what they say. Plus, if Jesus can put himself on the cross and die for all mans sins, then anyone could do it.

Some have a tendency to have a common mental disorder called schizophrenia. If this disorder is encouraged by others suffering from it instead of being treated than it will spread.
The symptoms are illusions, delusions, irrational and illogical thinking. Believing that invisible beings are watching you and influencing your life etc....
Today there is a medicine that treats this mental disorder. It's zyprexa. (Use only as directed, see a doctor).
