in the koran? or is it just some "law" passed by the saudi "government" What or who is actually stopping non Muslims from going there?
Can anyone tell me exactly where it says in the Koran, we cannot visit this holy place, and maybe a muslim could explain why we can't.

Yes this is a serious question.

beleive me, it's not a saudi "government" law that has been passed. and i don't know who or what is stopping the non muslims, and i don't know the whole quran by heart and i don't have the translated version either so i don't know and can't help u.
but i was told by a cirtain family member who does know it that there is a verse in there somewhere that clearly states it (that non-muslims or the disbeleivers-as the quran calls them- cannot visit mecca)
it's probably for the same reason that muslims have never set foot in a church or in any other holy place of any other religion.
i don't know any more than iv'e told u.
i do suggest that u buy or borrow the translated version and look for it yourself.
it might take a while but u will find an answer in there.
good luck!

Mecca is a holy place for Muslims. Every Muslim is to make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca in his life if physically able.
Anyone not a muslin is considered and infidel (non beleiver) and muslims consider infidels not worthy or unclean. Muslims beleive that allah is the one true god and that is their destiny to convert the world to Islam even if means doing at the point of a sword. Anyone who does not convert should be put to the sword. SOme Muslim countries even forbid any religion other than Islam to be taught and put to death anyone who converts or teaches Christianity. Sounds like they are afraid of a little competition

Saudi Arabia is not a "free" country in the sense of freedom as in the US. Therefore by controlling its borders and visitors the country is able to minimize being contaminated by the filth that runs rampant in free countries such as the US. This is a government condition and has nothing to to do with the Qu'ran. I am glad that you have taken interest in knowing the difference between the religion and local custom.

If you want to visit Makkah, you need a Visa just like anyone other outsider. This visa requirement applies to anyone on this planet. This requirement is from Islam.

When I go to the US, I have to sign certain declations otherwise they won't let men. If I want to go to Makkah, the Visa requirement is very simple and the the same for every human on this planet. I have to say with my lips:

"There is no God (worthy of worship) except Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah".

This Visa is free and you can easily get it from any local mosque.

no at all .
this law was exist because Allah ask us to do so, its only for Muslims and only Muslims .
Saudi "government" has nothing with that .

it is for Muslims for more than 1400 year :)

i read a lot of reasons and the most important that no one can carry with him any believes rather than what Allah sent .
so you can't worship someone than Allah and came to his home came to the most purist spot in the whole world .

Why would non muslims want to go to Makkah?
You don't see Muslims saying "we want to go to Vatican City"? Though I do like the architecure of all the buildings.
