No, I pray for reasons, but also because I know the good Lord wants to hear from me! Wait, maybe I do sometimes just pray for the sake of it=)

If you pray only when you need something, yoiu are nothing but a beggar. Imagine how a father would feel if his child only comes to him to ask something. "Dad, I need some money." or "Dad, please buy me a new bicycle or car." Jesus says that we must pray to our Father which is in heaven. So we are actually to treat Him as our real father or friend. I make a practice of spending some time in the morning and in the evening to talk to God in prayer. Sometimes while reading the Bible I also lift my heart to Him and say something to thank Him for His word, or promise, and I tell Him my happiness and sorrows, just like talking to a friend of my parents.
For instance while answering questions like this I always offer a silent prayer like: "Father please guide me so that I can give an anwwer that will be a blessing to this brother/sister. Thank you for this privilege of witnessing for you."
Prayer should be an opening of our heart to God as to our best friend, besides a key to open the treasure house of heaven.

I was led to stop praying on wants and needs those things are freely given as you need them - praise is better
