Now, here's my question. God gave us brains to think, and the ability to wonder about the universe we live in. He gave us the capacity for science and discovery. Therefore, how can science possibly be evil? God wouldn't have given us brains if he didn't want us to ask 'why', and make discoveries about the universe. Why do some christians condemn science and modern medicene when it was God who gave us the ability to do such things?

Science is not evil. It is good; it allows us to understand his Universe, it reveals to us the power and majesty of God. Some Christians condemn it because they cannot accept the fact that they might be wrong. If science disproved their belief in, say, creationism, they would have to change. And that is something they refuse to do, so they reject science.

These people are wrong, however. Science teaches us about the nature of God and leads us closer to the truth. As Pope John Paul II stated, "Faith cannot contradict reason."

Galileo said, "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended for us to forego their use." And didn't Jesus teach us that it was a crime not to use the talents God gave us? Science is God's gift to us, not an evil to be destroyed.

Simple. Science isn't evil and any christians who tell you otherwise hasn't researched. Science is making observations about our physical enviroment which christians believe god created anyway. Christians tend more to disagree with aspects of science which scientists regard as absolute truth, when scientists themselves will often say that nothing is ever absolute. My opinion is, "Ask why?" If there is something to be discovered, discover it. These scientific and medical discoveries and cures only prove to me more that God is real.

Good question. I'm an atheist but you make a sensible argument. I would suggest that you and other like-minded believers do something about the wingnut fundie creationists who are making your religion into a laughingstock (when they're not stalking and murdering abortion doctors).

Religion makes me nervous because of what's been done "in the name of god" all through history, and I *know* if our own fanatics ever seized power they would go on a blood-soaked rampage against infidels that would put the Muslims to shame. Your help in preventing that scenario will be gratefully acknowledged and appreciated.

Christians feel that science is intruding on their space at times, and they instinctively elbow back when they think it's happening.

That's been going on for a long time - Galileo was charged with heresy by the Catholic church for having the audacity to claim the Earth revolved around the Sun. (The Church believed everything revolved around the Earth.)

The Christians who condemn science are stupids and fanatics.

GOD and SCIENCE ARE THE SAME THING, you can't understand science without god, and you can't understand god without science.
