I love Puerto Rico. Whenever I go I get the feeling of home. La gente es bien humilde. I wouldn't change the fact that I'm Boricua for nothing.

Puerto Rico have the same things as the states, except for the amusement parks. It have beautiful beaches such as Playa Flamingo and the beaches in Vieques. It have great historical places like El Morro and Castillo Serralles; malls, bowling alleys, a lot of night bars such a Brava, Pool Palace, Senor Frogs, Lupis, The Water Club and very nice restaurants.

And for the record... I have lived in Puerto Rico for 27 years and I've never had any problem with criminality. The problems are in certains areas only and if your are smart enough, you don't go there.

Been there 3-4 times and thought it was great. English spoken in tourist areas but smaller towns outside speak Spanish mostly. People are friendly if you are. Beaches are beautiful, the golf, food, hotels, diving, nightlife, etc. are great. Old San Juan is fixed up real nice compared to years ago. Easy driving on the island and lots to see and do. The Paradores are nice little 'bed and breakfast' or boutique hotels available thru out the island if you want to get in with the locals. It is alot safer than some of the other islands like Jamaica, etc.

Reliability problems with electricity, internet, water.

Sun gets through much hotter. You can blister in 30 minutes. You will burn much, much faster as compared to summer days in New York. Everyone hides from the sun here, including me when I visit!

Expensive. It's part like a state and part like a tourist trap. The real estate prices are like New York and completely out of hand.

There are hardly any street addresses. Homes do NOT have numbers. many roads do NOT have names. You will get LOST on most days without a clear driving plan but even then this might not help you since you need to depend on landmarks to find places (but people are friendly and will help).

People outside of the major areas are friendly. People in the Tourist areas are not so friendly or those who work in busy places. Just goes to show that when people are naturely friendly and you put them in high stress work or life, they generally become the same.

Work is hard to find and most people earn about $7 an hour but the prices are high on most things. Nearly everyone has gates on their homes because of crime (in all areas).

It's a great place to visit but I do not recommend living here yet. It's not ready...

I don't mean to come down hard on Puerto Rico. It generally is a good place once you get used to the way it works. People in general are much, much nicer than the NY crowd. I am just providing a prospective to people who live in the States (especially New York).

Fantasic Place to go and depends on where you stay... we opted for the Westin Rio Del mar and it was well worth it and gorgeous... cabana boys are more than helpful and so are the bartenders!!! J/k but the view of the island and the americanized parts are comforting.. go if you want to remember a fantastic time.. visit old san juan for fun and night excitement or Rio Grande for a jungle like experience!

I've visited a few times and loved it. My husband and I even got married there. It's a great place for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, surfing (certain areas), and diving. Plus horseback riding, luminescent bay tours (fabulous), hiking in the rain forest, and cave exploring-with a guide. I could go on and on.

I have and I think it's cool, but not great. Actually, I'm from another Caribbean island, so I don't think there's anything tremendously different there.
