Hamilton Beach has a line of "Eclectrics" that has colored appliances including coffee makers. They have pineapple, sea breeze, apple, and the red, black, white, and metal ones too.
JCPenney has their own line of appliances called Cooks. They have colored coffee makers too. Apple green, black, blue, buttercup, pink, purple, red, and white.

Well it might work. It won't be very even colored (so you'll probably see that). And remember that means you're putting a piece of plastic infront of your lens, so don't expect exceptional sharpness, but do expect reflections and flaring (Then again those are still a risk with filters). Instead of that you could buy a sheet of filter gels and use that instead. It will have more even color than the transparency and marker thing. You'll be losing light anyway so you can also look at the colored sheets for document folders (pick one of the smooth clear ones). The real problem with not using a dedicated filter is it really is touch and go, you have very little idea what to expect from it until you actually test it because you have very little idea exactly what shade of red it is. Also on the home made thing you'll probably lose more stops of light than with a real filter and you'll get softer photos. That said, they used to actually use gels as color filters so it can't have been that bad.

Maybe Kitchen Aid makes one. I know they make electric mixers in a myriad of colors.
