I currently have service pack 1 on my computer and I just got a new web cam and it says I need service pack 2 to use it. If I cant just download it and I have to use a CD, do I have to reformat my computer to install it or can I just straight up install it? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. If I can just download it, where do I download it? Give me specifics please. Thank you.

Just do Windows or Microsoft update. That'll give you the option to download and install the Service pack 2. Easy peasy. You don't have to do anything except click "ok" a couple of times, maybe do a restart. Good Luck

No, it's not as complicated as you think.

Visit this SP2 Upgrade page of the Microsoft site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

And click on "Download SP 2 from Microsoft Update" in a box at the bottom right of the screen.

Their website will check what kind of SP2 update you need by communicating with your computer.

You do NOT have to reformat your machine. You just have to restart. Depending on how many updates you need / choose to install, you may have to restart a few times, but you are not gonna lose files / programs on your computer.
