Yes. A puppy will need you and you wont have time to focus on your loss. You will be too busy taking care of a puppy and playing with him. Puppys are full of joy of life and you will feel it too with him. Its not disrespectful to the dog you lost to get one, it just means you loved him so much you want to experience that kind of love again.

Yes, I would guess that you have situational depression.

I don't think another pet is a good idea right now. You need time to grieve your loss properly, and a new pet will interfere with that process.

Grief takes a little while. You can either go through the grieving process now, and then get a pet later, or you can get a pet, and still go through the grieving process after it has wreaked all sorts of havoc with your emotions because it has been supressed.

Look at it this way. You lost a close and dear friend. No one goes through that and then runs out and finds a new friend. Take your time, feel sad, and heal up. When you feel better, you can get a new pet.

I am very sorry for your loss. I know what it's like. It hurts like crazy, and there's nothing that makes it go away but time.

Be well.

Try to wait a few more weeks before getting a new puppy, that way you give yourself a bit more time to grieve for the dog you have lost and will be more prepared to accept the new dog as it's own little person and won't be looking for the dog you lost in it. You just have to accept that it is okay to feel this way at the moment, but you do have to try and move on. Nothing can replace the animal you have lost, but you can certainly have room in your heart for another little friend.
Over the years I have had to say goodbye to 4 dogs and 2 horses. Each time it has broken my heart and I still miss each of them, but do try to motivate yourself as your lost friend would not want you to be depressed.
Some people don't understand the attachment that people can have towards an animal, so don't listen to them.
Good luck and I hope you can find your smile!

I am sorry to hear about your dog. but losing a pet is like losing a family member or a close friend ,. You are morning the loss of such a unique relationship right now. and it is a perfectly understandable reaction. These things can take time and perhaps you should as well before rushing into getting a new dog to replace that void.
Remember all the good times ,cry if you have to ,and make peace with it in knowing that he/she are in a better place right now and that you will always have cherished memories and a place in your heart forever.

I am sorry for the loss of your beloved companion. Dogs are part of our family, when a familymember passed away we feel very sad.
What you are going through right now is normal, you are in a process of grieving which is the cause of loss of motivation, feeling of deppression.
Getting another pet is a good idea but I will leave it for a few more weeks or months until you are ready. If you get a pet right now, you may be comparing your new pet to your old pet that die.
HAPPY NEW YEAR

yea i would call that depression, you could try another dog, just dont get the same kind of dog. Get a diffrent bread, and dont expect your dog to be just like your old one. Dogs are like people in that they all have diffrent "personalities" so if you get a diffrent breed. Then it will bring back less memories of your old dog, either way you need to find something to do with your time. Its hard but you cant change the fact that your dog died, i know its rough, but you do have to move on. Adopt a dog from the pound and think of the much better life you will be giving it then the life it had in the pound.

Those are common symptoms of grieving. If they deepen and last longer than a couple months then it's likely that a depressive illness has set in. For many of us our pets become like family members. Whenever I've lost a pet I've always waited for awhile before I got another one. A little over a year ago we had to put our dachshund, Ginger, down. She was 13 and had been sick with heart failure for a couple months and was only getting worse. Give it time, it will get easier.

If your pet isn't up to date on deworming,I would suggest worming her.All pets kept outside should be wormed every 4 months,if an inside dog about every 5 months.A good safe wormer is PANACUR,but must be repeated 3 days in a row.

My son's father murdered my dog 7 years ago on xmas. I still think about her everyday. I still get very depressed and sad. Losing a pet is a traumatic thing. You never get over them...you just learn to live without them. I wish you the best. You aren't alone.
