My mom just offered my German Shepherd/Great Dane mix dog a brownie about a couple hours ago and I wanted to know if my dog will be healthy. She (my dog) seemed to like the brownie...

Chocolate has an ingredient that is toxic to dogs. You need to make sure your Mom doesn't do this again. It's bad for the dogs system, they don't process chocolate well and it stays in their system for a long time period.
Don't allow her to give her anymore, just because she liked it doesn't mean it's okay. After all for some reason a dog will drink antifreeze if it's available, doesn't mean they won't die from it!

You got lucky, don't push your chances. They can become violently ill and even die. Our system processes chocolate differently. If your Mother doesn't believe you a call to the vet is in order, he can explain the reasons why it is a no no.

I feel badly for your dog, not like she can even tell you if it made her stomach even sllightly sore.

And to the person above who said most dogs aren't deadly allergic to chocolate... It's not an allergy that causes the problem it's one of the properties in chocolate they can't break down. Why on earth do people answer question they know nothing about?

Dogs do like sweets, but dogs should never be given sweets. And it's especially important that they not get chocolate of any kind. There is a certain chemical in the cocoa bean that is harmful to dogs, and this chemical can even cause death in some.
Just observe your dog for any unusual behavior or reactions. One of the best indicator's of a dog's health is the consistency of its stool. If it's abnormal, or if she shows any signs of illness, then it would be a good idea to take her to the vets.
And be sure to pass this information onto your mom.

Dogs love chocolate but it doesn't love them back. One bite shouldn't do harm, but too much can actually kill them. "Why is Chocolate Lethal? Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs." Please see the url below.

Tell your mom that there are treats that are healthy for dogs. If she want's to treat the dog, do so with something that won't make it sick. Get some rawhide or milkbones. They love those! And rawhide is great because dogs need to chew. It cleans their teeth and is very good for them.

Yes, your dog will be fine. chocolate is bad for dogs, however it depends on the kind of chocolate and how much. It is the bakers chocolate (the pure chocolate and coco) that is dangerous to dogs. The dog would have to eat a lot of the common chocolate to get sick. Our shepherd/rot mix loved chocolate and once ate an entire bag of Hershey kisses. She was fine.

I'm sure she'll be fine. My dog ate quite a bit of chocolate when my grandma brought it and left it out side, having heard the stories I called the vet and they reassured me that he'd be fine and that I could expect him to vomit, and a little while later he vomited but he was fine. The size of the dog plays a factor as the bigger the dog, the less risk there is of it getting ill. Just don't feed it anything else! Keep an eye on her, just in case something happens but i m sure she'll be ok.

No chocolate, it is poisen. I've seen a big dog eat a chocolate cake and was OK, to the best of my knowledge. Clue your mother in so it doesn't happen again. Just watch you dog carefully for a bit.

You probably shouldnt feed your dog any sweets unless if it was /made/ for a dog, or for that type of dog. Try giving it a slice of cheese or bread to help coat its stomach. You might have some barfing later on, but just make sure it continues to drink water and keep an eye on it.

Chocolate is poison to canines! even inspite of the shown fact that very very few canines are actually not tormented via it. on each and every occasion we bypass away my terrier on my own in our homestead with chocolate on the table she will consume it. One time she ate 2 bags of hersheys kisses and not something handed off. of direction we've been all very conceerned and took her to the vet. and that they mentioned that when in an incredible whilst you will detect a canines who can take care of chocolate. this would not recommend which you would be able to freely provide your canines chocolate inspite of the shown fact that. So i could recommend conserving any chocolate out of attain and in a sealed field. in case you want to be sure she is okay i could call the vet and make an appointment. i don't reccomend utilising chocolate as a take care of even whether it somewhat is on occasion.

chances are your dog will be okay. watch out for convulsions and mumps that develop on the skin. some dogs are more sensitive to chocolate than others. i have a chihuahua that eats chocolate almost everyday, but then again she has been fed chocolate all her life, so she is used to it. i wouldn't recommend it as part of the dogs diet, but just watch her and make sure that she continues to act okay and if not call a vet

There are toxins in chocolate that dogs can't digest and become poision. If you get to much build up of toxins then you can hurt the dog. Your dog should be fine but that doesn't mean to keep feeding it to her- its not good for her.
