The easy and the best way would be to gargle with salt water.
You can try the below ones also which might be helpful.
Lemon, Good Cold Pressed Olive Oil, Honey (optional). Go around the lemon - poking it with a fork and then put it in the oven (350') until juice bubbles out the holes. Cool. Squeeze the lemon and put the juice in a jar. Add an equal amount of olive oil. Add some honey if you like. SHAKE! Take a small spoonful now and again - like a lozenge.
You merely need to suck on a lemon. Use either one small lemon or a little more than one-half of a big lemon. Cut it into sections as you would an orange, and suck the juice out of each section. Try one more time an hour later if the sore throat still hasn't passed. If it's still sore after an hour after your second dose, you should strongly consider seeking medical assistance.

Gargle with salt water. Always make it a habit to drink lukewarm water in winters and avoid cold water in summers. Thats what great singers have to do else we wont be getting so sweet melodies sung by them. They have so sweet voices but ask them what the cant do. Chew 3-4 fresh neem leaves daily. They are very good for general health. Take lot of milk if u can digests. It tones up the body. Avoid meats and fish. Go vegetarian and dabb inside of ur nose daily. Thats what i did and dont get sore throat now. Mainly it is due to impure water.

The best way to reduce the discomfort of sore throat is to take pain meds like Tylenol or Advil (acetominofen or Ibuprofen).
Warm beverages and soups are also soothing to the throat.
Gargling with warm salt water is effective at soothing and also for helping to reduce the viral infection. Good oral hygiene when you are sick is also good -- brushing your teeth and using antiseptic mouthwash (like Listerine brand) are helpful to reduce the level of viruses in your mouth.
There are also tons of products such as throat lozenges and throat sprays that are soothing. For lozenges, I have found that the most effective active ingredient is:
hexylresorcinol
But there are not very many products that have it. Instead you will probably be able to find products containing other active ingredients.
The brand Cepacol is generally the most effective lozenges available (in the USA). Here is their website:

This might not cure a sore throat. But gargling Salt water helps. Resting. Lots of rest and fluids. Resting allows the body to fight whatever it is that is causing your soar throat as far as I know.

There is a simple procedure prescribed by my grandmother. 1. Drink only luke warm water from the time you feel tightness of your throat. It is advised to drink warm water every day morning in general. 2. Warm water on the high side but not boiling, mix with lot of salt and gurgle. A glass of water is good. Do it a few times a day. 3. Clean your tongue often. May be two or three times a day? 4. Drink lots of chinese tea. No milk, No sugar. Black tea with very little leaves (this prescription is by my very good friend and it is working wonders with me and my family)

You can drink warm milk/soy milk with 2 tbsp of honey in it, hot tea (or water, if you dislike tea) with the same plus lemon, gargling with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria, and then using throat lozenges. (the herbal ricola ones are the least medicine-y, though you'd never know it by the taste.)
Other than that, slippery elm bark brewed into tea works well, as does chamomile.

One of the oldest and best ways is to gargle salt water. Add some salt to warm water, and gargle as long as you can, then spit it out. You can do this multiple times a day, and it really does work.

it depends entirely on what is causing the sore throat. Most are viral, in which case it will go away on it's own. If it is a strep infection.....you might be in deep trouble without antibiotics.
This is why we see doctors. They can determine the difference.
