Be like Bridget!
Here she goes:
"-am a woman of substance.don't need men to be complete
-we should not concentrate so hard on being sophisticated or hardworking...;)))
-Don't be such a prima bloody donna!
-nb wants a gf who wanders round looking like some1 from Auschwitz, darling
-I am. Going. To stand on. Own. Two. Feet.
-Am woman of world with career etc.
-You cannot expect anything to change unless you change."
And remember that after all - she finally found her gorgeous Mr Darcy ;-DDDDD
But for now:
'Hurrah for the Singletons!'

Is it possible you got invited because they're aware of the fact you don't have a partner and they're trying to help you meet somebody? And why would it be bad if you went alone on the first place?
I know that being the only one "unpaired" in a house full of couples might make you feel uncomfortable, but I believe it's up to you to decide what message you want to convey. You can either feel sorry for yourself and have the "I'm so miserable, I have no one, nobody loves me" attitude, or you can be nice and happy and convey the message that you're strong, dynamic and perfectly fine with your single status.
Taking someone - anyone just to show them you have somebody isn't such a great idea either. Who knows who's waiting around the corner, why miss your chance with someone that could end up being the love of your life!

Forget the tv. Go get some free food and have a good time. I like to go to functions like these for what I call "practice". I practice making small talk. I can practice making eye contact or making hand gestures by watching people that are good with it.
You can even help your cousin out by keeping her boyfriend and her from being bored to death. You can find out how your cousin met her boyfriend and if maybe he's got any buddies. You NEVER know where adventure or learning experiences pop up!
Go make the best of it! Besides, you will make points with your folks!

Go, as the single single person there you will be the Belle of the Ball! There is absolutely nothing to apologize for about being single. Just don't let them set you up with too many blind dates.

I think your family could give a crap if you have a partner. Just go. Never pass up opportunities to be with family.

Go and be proud of who you are. You don't have to have a partner to be happy in life.
