It's not eating raw foods, but WHOLE foods that increase our life expectancy and overall health. Try eating things like nuts, omega-3 fat fish and eggs, fruits, vegetables, and more water. Try to avoid anything processed, including: breads, pastas, sodas; basically anything that comes in a package. Try desperately to avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup. That stuff is AWFUL for you.

That would depend on what you are eating raw! Veggies and fruits and stuff sure, I don't recommend raw meats though. Like chicken or pork. That would not only shorten your life span, but what time you would have left would be nasty!!

My great grandma always said that you can eat whatever you want as long as you eat in moderation. A little piece of chocolate cake on holidays won't kill you, but eating a whole cake every day might. Its simple things, if you think you shouldn't eat it then don't. End of story.

Well, as you might expect, a lot of research is being done as far as expanding lifespan, and a few words of clarification seem to be in order.

First, what do you mean by "raw foods" ? I would point out that sugar, though usually processed before we see it, can be eaten as a "raw food", and will make you just as fat as its processed couterpart. For that matter, water intake - in too large an amount - can intoxicate , or even kill. So it is not the type of food, per se, that determines lifespan...

Second, raw food can itself be dangerous, in that raw, unprocessed food can contain bacteria that are dangerous to humans. Two cases that immediately spring to mind are the spinach "horror" recently in the U.S. that caused several deaths, and a personal experience that I had with raw, unpasteurized milk. (Yummy, but I got SO sick afterwards...) So raw food as a type, may or may not be helpful to expanding your personal lifespan...

If, however, you make a common mistake, and equate "raw" foods with "organic" foods, then there is a possible "yes" answer to your question. "Organic" foods, in theory, are foods that are created and processed without any kind of chemical enhancement, such as hormones added to cows for greater meat and milk production, or the use of pesticides to promote growth in plants. The belief is such chemicals can pass down the food chain, be consumed by humans and cause negative effects in lifespan by stressing and interrupting natural biological processes in humans.

Current research in extending human lifespan, though, does point to diet as one way of extending lifespan, not through the eating of one particular classification of food, but rather though the intake of certain compunds, such as foods high in antioxidants and certain vitamins. Also hormone treatments, used to increase to youthful levels certain hormones such as: human growth hormone (HGH), testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, melatonin, DHEA and thyroid compounds, have been seen as one key to "turning back the biological clock" to extend human life span.

Other treatments range from the very difficult (i.e. "calorie restriction"), to the more ominous uses of biotechnology (i.e. "genetic engineering"), to the far stranger uses of technology (i.e. "cryonics" and "mind uploading"). All of these ideas are currently under testing or development right now, and assuming we as a species can restrain ourselves from self-distruction, one of them may keep us going for a lot longer than even we imagine.

For further study, may I reccomend the following Wikipedia articles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifespan_extension ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indefinite_lifespan ; and of course the overarching: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Life_extension .

I hope that these will serve as a beginning on your quest for a longer life. As a final note, I might point out that the one thing all of these various and varied methods have in common is knowledge: knowledge of oneself, knowledge of how the physical body works and knowledge of what is currently medically possible. Knowledge, truly, is power.
