Strange as it might seem, try http://www.realestate.com.au . The maps here switch from Google Earth to Street Mapping on the suburbs of your choice, and because you zoom in / zoom out you can get quite a perspective.
Otherwise, try the http://www.mynrma.com.au as mentioned above
