I think the ouija board is a powerless block of wood.
Any problems that arise come from the people playing with it. If, by chance, they come up with some awful answer, and they convince themselves that this is determined to happen, they can set themselves up for doom.
Or people can become afraid if they believe it has evil power. So it conjures up fears of evil, and people may start looking for evil to happen. But it's all in the person, not the board.

It's both, in my opinion.

One problem with the board is that it is like a door. Once you open it, you cannot control what comes through. I know people who have used the board with the best intentions, or thinking it's just a game, and who have had bad results because they have had no way of knowing or controlling what comes through when they open up that portal.

I also know people who have used the board with the intention of inviting something evil through. As someone else so wisely pointed out, if you go looking for evil, or asking evil to come to you, you shouldn't be surprised when an evil entity responds.

I have heard a lot of creepy stories from very reputable sources about the weird things that happen when you use a Ouija board. I think it's the kind of thing that's best left on the shelf at the store :)

I think both. Regardless, the ouija board is a problem, whether the person involved understands that or not. I've experienced it, my Mother has also and I've heard about others. Not good. One lady I remember was using one for fun and it usually starts off fine, even if you don't get respones from the board, things can occur (as they did with me). They happen later on, often when you are in your own bedroom at night.

Myself, my Mother, my aunt, all dabbled as young people and all had bad experiences, and they all happened at night in our own room. You think you're ok, during the day, wham things start happening. NOt to everybody, some people seem to get away with it, others do not.

I'd advise to leave well enough alone. You dabble in that stuff and the effects can hold onto you from then on. I regret bitterly ever touching it.

Both. I played with one when I was little and as crazy as it sounds WEIRD and VERY SPOOKY things started happening in my friends house. It felt like we invited something or someone in that wasn't there before. I am not a nut-ball, believe me. I have never heard "voices" before (or since) but I heard something say my name and you could just sense that it was evil. VERY SCARY. We were around 14 when we were messing around with it and she had haunting stuff happening in her house for years after that. The bible warns about that stuff. Now I think I understand why. Very, very, very scary. I still get the heebie-jeebies when I think about it.
