I had to persuade my mom and dad to get me a pet and I ended up with 3. Heres what you do, first do your regular chores with out being asked and then do chores that you don't do often without being asked. Then every time they ask you or comment about why you're doing your chores say "for the new dog" that should make them start thinking about it. Then go up to them and tell them what the pros and cons are(mostly the pros) and tell them if they get the dog you will always be the person to take care of it and you will do your chores without being asked.
That should work!

Good Luck!

You might not like this answer but, wanting a puppy is not a reason to get one. To be honest, your parents may be right at least for now. Perhaps a little time can change this. When I was younger I really wanted a puppy and no matter how much I begged and kept up with my chores it never changed my parents mind shoot, they still don't want a dog in they're house. Seeing your friend's dog when you visit might seem perfect to you, but they are ALOT of work and you will never know how much work until you own one yourself... Truthfully, they do smell if you don't clean them pretty much every other day and they need a lot of room to run around and play, and they can be expensive, my puppy cost nearly $700 and the first day home I spent nearly $200 on pet supplies alone, then come shots and vet visits, not to forget grooming and training sessions. If I didn't have a steady job it would be hard to maintain and keep him. Just consider all the pros and cons for you and your parents. Also, try to understand your parents financial situations and reasons for feeling the way they do before you start begging, because your parents could be right on this one. When I was younger I begged for a pet, got a hamster and and took very good care of it until it died. My Mother went against my Father's wishes and brought a kitten home for my Brother and I. After the kitten was brought home 3 days later my Dad gave it away while we were at school.

If your Dad won't let it in the house, your puppy will end up outside and very lonely. And your Mom is right about the amount of $ it takes to keep a dog healthy. If your animal gets sick, it can get extremely expensive and, as it's owner you must be prepared to pay. You have a responsibility to any animal you take in and you should want the absolute best for it. Why don't you volunteer at an animal shelter. They have soooo many animals that would love some extra attention and love and it seems like you have plenty to give. You will learn about all the dogs that people wanted but ended up giving up or throwing away. It is hard to go cheer up dogs and cats that may be put down because people can't or wouldn't take care of them. After a bit of that you will not want to bring an animal into anything but the best of situations and you will have made a bunch of animals much happier.
I do understand. . .I want every puppy I see.

A puppy will not stay a puppy no matter how 'cute' that is not a reason to get a dog. Ask your parents if you can start out with a smaller pet, like a hamster, guinea pig, etc. Then you can prove to them you can take care of a dog.

Dogs are a lot of work and not just all fun and games. They can be expensive, no one should adopt a dog that can't afford medical care, if your mother is afraid of the cost to feed it then you don't have the money to take one to the vet.

YOU stated you know they are right, but still want one. Is that fair to the dog? The first step in being a good pet parent is knowing and doing what is best for your dog selflessly. If you know they are right but still want one then that in itself proves you aren't ready. The comment about you don't want to go to your friends house when you want to play or see the dog is very telling.

Dogs aren't toys. Everyone in the house should be on the same page before any pet comes into the home. You may just have to wait until you are older. is there anyone with a dog in your neighborhood? Perhaps you can offer to pet and play with the dog or take it for walks. My husband was never permitted a pet, not even a fish. He used to take the next door neighbors dogs for walks etc. The neighbor loved it since the dog got plenty of excercise, etc Then you will know what it's like to have to dog. If you remember to walk it, etc on a daily basis your parents will see you are responisble and might in time change their mind.

the father is a Boston Terrier and the mother a Jack Russel Terrier mixture. The doggies are cute mutts. yet, please, get the dad fastened and the mother, too, as quickly as the canines are weaned. There are too many canines dying in shelters each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days (a minimum of three million interior the U.S. each and each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, with estimates for 2009 even larger as a results of undesirable financial equipment). My contemporary foster canines is a Boston Terrier x Staffordshire Bull Terrier mixture that became on loss of life row in a NYC kill look after. i'm specific she became an cute puppy, too. She's basically 10 months now and became to be euthanized interior 24 hours while she became rescued.

This might not be the best time to have a dog around your house if your parents are both against it. You say you want a dog but in 6 months time how do you know it won't be something else. You can't have everything you want in life and that's a hard lesson to learn especially at your age. You have lots of years ahead of you to own and love a pet.

puppies are expensive. i have a mini dach, and he has cost us about $3000 so far, in about 5 mths! he had to have his shots, then he needs food, toys, etc. this past week, he got very sick, and in order to make him better, we spent $660 at the vet, IN ONE DAY.
how old are you? maybe your parents think that once you get the dog, you won't pick up the poop, won't remember to feed it all the time, etc. puppies need to be housebroken, which involves crate training, which involves a lot of after school time. you can't go to the mall if the puppy needs to be walked or bathed, etc.
you say that you know they are right about their concerns, but yet you still want a dog? that's being selfish. maybe your parents can't afford to keep a dog. are you prepared to pay for it out of your own pocket? certain puppies will chew EVERYTHING. my dach is a very strong chewer, and we have spent money on toys and even obedience lessons ($100). didn't work.
you need to be grateful that your parents are trying to raise you the best they can, and as soon as you own your own house, then you can get a dog. it's better to have the resources to pay for the dog, then to have to return it to a shelter because you "wanted" one, just because.
go to your friends house and be happy with her dog.

p.s.- just keeping your room clean doesn't mean you can care for a pet. it just means that you can pick up your clothes.

If you truly want a puppy there is a way to prove you would be responsible for it but it would mean work for you. The way to prove to them you are worthy of having one is to start doing chores around the house without being asked. Do a good job at it too. If you keep doing it they will see you are mature enough to have a dog.
If you cant handle it then it means you arent mature enough yet to have one.
