my hair is the exact same way. use some really strong moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, like the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration products, and then once a week put some moisturizing mask (Brazil Nut Moisture Mask from the Body Shop) into your hair evenly, and put a plastic hairnet around it. leave it on overnight, then wash it out completely in the morning.
also, when you straighten your hair, spray some Thermal Protection Hair Spray onto it every few minutes. this will protect your hair from breaking. i use Chi Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray, which i bought from my stylist, but you can get some at most haircare shops.
do all this regularly, and your hair will stay healthy and strong, and the straightening wont fry it so much so it wont be so brittle. good luck!

Um, stop straightening it?
Seriously, if what you're doing is causing that much breakage, keeping it straight is a Sisyphean task. It's like trying to will your eyes to change color.
Why not work with what you have? Do you know how girls envy girls with naturally curly hair?
Check out Naturally Curly.com, a Web site about curly hair and its care and feeding. They have a great, supportive community that can help you find tips, styles, products, and a new hairdresser (which you need).
Most hairdressers are hopeless with curly hair, because it's quirky and unique to each person. But healthy, pampered, well-cut curly hair is far more attractive than hair that's been beaten into submission.
Give your hair and yourself a break and quit with the abusive straightening for a while and indulge it with some yummy deep conditioner. Spend that extra time shopping for a good hairdresser. Stop people on the street if you have to.

I know you probaly tried all the sprays that stop hair from breaking when you straighten it, but Ive straightened my hair everyday for school since i can remember and its growing fine and healthy with the spray i use. I'm soooo sorry I dont know the name (cause the bottle broke and i put it in a different one) but the bottle was orange and it had an orangish smell to it and its sold at most hair salons because Ive seen it in just about all the salons that sell brand products Ive been to!
dont hold me to it but Im pretty sure it started with R

you would probably benefit from giving your hair a break from the straightening- especially everyday!
If going natural isnt an option for you, can you maybe cut down on the amount of times per week you apply heat to your hair to straighten it? I know when i do my hair straight i try to make it last atleast a week.
going natural isnt bad, and it will help your hair recover from years of abuse. when natural, you can use lots of moisture and conditioning. You can make it your new look and reinvent yourself for 2007!
with it natural you don't have to worry about getting caught in the rain or sweating during your workouts because it wont mess up your hair as much.
i like my hair straight but i actually love my hair curly- its so comfortable... try www.naturallycurly.com for more info and insight on your natural hair and even ways to make it more healthy... good luck!

I also have naturally very curly hair and like to wear it straight, and I know how much of a pain it can be. I have tried everything, and I regret to inform you that there is no way to keep your hair healthy and straight. I suggest that you give your hair a break and go back and forth between curly and straight. That way, you keep your hair from falling out, and you have a bit of variety.

I suggest giving your hair a break from that straightner, I know as hard as that may seem and all but truely it will help. I myself once had curly hair, and I got tired of it so I got a straightning perm. Just go to a good hair salon and get a perm that makes your hair permanently straightened, so the straightner would not even need to be used! Well good look, and hopefully everything will go well for you =]
