Depression is one of the 6 basic emotions humans have. It is caused by simply not having a sure knowledge that you are loved. Just an unkind word or criticism can result in that initial sinking feeling of unworthiness. That sinking feeling may result in negative thoughts about yourself if you are sensitive and alone a lot. Those negative thoughts result in still a lower feeling, which result in more negative thinking etc. in a reinforcing cycle.

You are always going to encounter "put downs" and if they are frequent and you are a thinking person they can result in the negative thoughts of self depreciation dominating your thinking, whch carry on the cycle. You finally come to expect them, even look for them. The thing to do to break this cycle is to break up the habit of negative thinking and replace it with positive thoughts.

Things that you enjoy, things you have done that are uplifting, memories of or talk with actual people who approve of you (love you). You have to force your self to think these thoughts, do these things. It may be hard at first the cycle is hard to break and when you relax your will you may slip back into thinking negatively.

But it will break and the low feeling will gradually dissipate and be replaced with a happier mien. Remember the things that break the cycle and concentrate on doing and thinking about them to keep in a happy mood. AVOID FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF.

People usually don't pray until their feet get close to the fire. When you hit bottom...then you can find something. Many have to wait until their feet are very close to the fire, until they hit bottom. Then something can be found, something can happen. Maybe you're feet just aren't close enough yet. It's a dangerous path, but some are lucky and live through it. Others decide sooner, before bottom. Some decide a little late. Maybe you will decide sooner, and spare some pain, while there is still time.

I respect your choice. For me, I'm glad there is God. I tried denial, with back turned. It was just no fun. Even money wouldn't help. It's a little like the child lost at the carnival. A nightmarish experience, even in the middle of all that is supposed to be fun...the rides, the clowns. It's a horror show for the lost child. But once he has hold of mother/father's hand, it's fun again.

That's my experience. Everything just sucked without God in this life. I respect your right to have a different experience, and to not believe me.

Have you had a complete physical exam? Many physical disorders can cause depressive symptoms and these need to be ruled out. How many medications have you tried? Often times people with depression will have to try a few different meds before they find the one that works for them. Have you only seen your family doctor for this? Have him refer you to a good psychiatrist. They are specialist in mood disorders. Also if you fail to respond to several different drugs don't be afraid to try ECT. It's nothing like what has been portrayed in movies and on TV. It's very effective for treatment-resistant depression. Does your depression begin in the later fall or winter? It could be seasonal affective disorder in which light therapy can be very helpful. Don't give up hope. Depression is a very treatable illness. You just have to work with your doctor and/or therapist. Sometimes it takes a while to find the best treatment.

you must first realize that depression is an illness, and you have to treat it like an illness. killing yourself is not the answer, if you could really search for God you will find that He is very real. The holy spirit can comfort you and help you. the devil wants to keep you depressed so he can take your soul to hell. It might just turn out to be the reason your depressed, its because you have no peace of mind or heart,. God has a purpose and a plan for your life here on earth and even though you don't want to hear this, this is the way to recovery. i know i'v been there i love you

strenght: is what got you into the world right from the beginning. It got u here on the path of destruction. It can get u back to feeling sain. It is a very long road and will keep you busy for a long time. You will discover thought and ideas that you have never contemplated before just like you have on your roller coaster ride already. If you receive councelling remember they are only there to help you discover your own strengths so you can use what works for u. My motto is if we were all problem free it would be a very cool world with no compassion. Get through this so you can one day help some one in need also.

Tomorrow when 2007 comes, write a diary. Not just a normal one - but a happy one. I'm going to write everyday the good points of my day and forget about the bad things... because life is made up of ups and downs you can't ever be happy all the time... so when someone chooses to only focus on the bad things, it will make them feel depressed.

Even little things can be good such as oppurtunity.

You are never out of options, although I now it feels that way. It is important to go into counseling and stay in it consistently, while trying to find a good med concurrently. If you do therapy or meds alone, they probably won't work. They need to be done at teh same time. Don't be afraid to try different therapists if your current one is not helping. Additionally, try to go as often as possible, once a week or more if you need to.

I won't say pray, even though I have said a prayer for you! But you have to find your own way of dealing with things! And please don't think about suicide! I know that some times it seems like the only thing that will make it better, but it's the selfish way. Do you love your family and friends? If so, don't pu them through the pain and agony of killing yourself! My husband's cousin just killed herself yesterday morning and now we are all faced with trying to understad why! Please don't do that! If you ever feel the need to, just email or im me or anyone else. We will listen!

well seeing as it runs in my family and i also have had problems with depression my whole life i would say your best bet would be to try and get out of the house more, do things that you enjoy to keep your mind off of the problem thats what i have done in the last year and it has really helped me, i noticed when i was by myself i had the biggest problems i would cut myself and i attempted suicide once but now that i have productive things to occupy my time i no longer have those issues as much exe. online games, going out with a friend,i like to decorate my room and i feel a sence of accomplishment when i do that. well just try to find things you enjoy doing and keep it up. one step at a time. if you ever need to talk just e-mail me and good luck... i hope i helped.
